I was playing the Sims 3 last night, and I had the GPU monitor up because I was curious about how high the temp would go while I was playing a PC game that used 3D graphics. While I was creating a Sim it stayed around 70 degrees. When I actually got in the gameplay, it went as high as 96! But it only did that once. Then it stayed around 70-80 something degrees. Is it supposed to be that high when running a game?

Hello Campey,

Well, 96c is way too high so you should keep an eye on that as you don't want to burn your leg/furniture.

70-80 is a little more acceptable, though that depends on how high into the 80's your laptop goes.

I would keep your eye on those temps and if they start to climb then you can be sure that your laptop will fail imminently.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

Hi
I'm in the same situation I was offered a repair and (stupidly) took it thinking fantastic as my Dell was out of warranty but two weeks later my laptop died. Naturally I was straight back on the phone to Dell but they kept telling me I'd have to pay for a repair and offered me discounts on said repairs :x!

I've only just stubbled on this site so I'm asking can I still follow the steps and try and get my laptop repaired or do I not have a leg to stand on as I stupidly accepted the repair without finding out what they were going to change. (if they even bothered to do that!)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Jackie

Hello Jackie and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you have experienced with your laptop.

When Dell originally repaired your laptop did they change the motherboard? If so, do you have a copy of the work order?

This only confirms my theory that repairs are to be rejected.

You surely can follow the step by step guide. If Dell try and offer you a free repair you should refuse it on the basis they have already repaired it once to no avail.

I would tell them that only a refund or replacement laptop will suffice.

They will probably refuse everything but a repair in which case you should then send them a letter before action. If that fails to kick them into action then you will need to obtain an engineers report and send them a copy of that along with a final Letter Before Action.

If that doesn't secure you a positive resolution then you should just sue them, at the end of the day you cannot lose (if the laptop is indeed inherently defective).

There is a step by step guide on this forum that will help you reach a positive resolution and that is here:- post13.html#p13

If you follow my advice in that guide then you will be successful.

If you have any questions or if you need any advice then please let me know.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul
