Hi all

hope all don't mind me posting my issue here as i have a different make laptop but with same issue

i have an MSI megabook S430X model MS-1414 Running an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core chip with 2GB ram Nvidia Go 6100 GPU

here is my problem

one day working away on the laptop and all of a sudden screen goes blank did a hard restart without any success in getting the laptop to fire up again

i did the standard checks like taking out the memory and doing some cleaning but again without any success i had popped out for a couple of cold ones and when getting home a couple of hours later i decided to give it another shot i tried the 2 memory sicks but 1 at a time and finally got it fired up i tested the second memory stick in the same slot with success it fired up so i learn that both sticks are working fine so i replaced the other stick back in the other slot to find that when trying to fire it up nothing same problem i taken out that stick and fired it up and it worked fine so i left it out and ended up with 1GB...

few months later working on the laptop all of a sudden laptop crashes again but this time the screen didnt go blank this time it crashed with the image of my desktop screen with thick dotted lines going from top to bottom again did a hard reset and tried to start it up again and nothing

the power lights still come on and the hard disk still spins up as well as the DVD drive making its normal noises and also the CPU fan is running

i tried the above actions again and nothing.

with the cheesed off face i had i kinda lent on the front of the laptop to the left of the mouse pad with a little pressure hit the power button and it did show the MSI Logo

now i am aware most people are saying that the GPU may be at fault here but the GPU on this laptop is at the rear close to the battery terminals but there is also another Nvidia Chip closer to the front of the laptop roughly under where the mouse pad is the Chip is Nvidia NF-430-n-a3 if i can i will try to attach a photo of the motherboard on here

but i should mention that the CPU the (GPU maybe) i say maybe the GPU is getting hot because i can't be 100% sure as it is on the same heatsink tube as the CPU and that above mentioned chip does get hot also

anyway i hope the above info is helpful i would love to get this laptop up and running again it is pretty fast

thanks in advance

have a nice day

Hello and welcome to my forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

Unfortunately, the problem with your laptop is indeed related to the Nvidia GPU and the GPU that your laptop contains is one of those that Nvidia publicly announced were defective.

Whilst it would be possible to get your laptop working again due to the nature of the problem it is highly likely that the problem will re-occur.

The only solution would be to seek a resolution from the retailer which you can do under the Limitations Act of 1980.

Who did you purchase the laptop from and what method of payment did you use?

Please let me know and I will advise further.

Best wishes
