Hi,
just found your site while looking for answers re. my Advent 6552. Symptoms sound right - power on, power light on, disc light on, cd drive spins, screen black... then powers off. the screen is dead, no power. Now the twist - if you continue cycling the power button, it will eventually come to life, and work fine , until next time..

Thing is, this is the 3rd time this fault has happened. First time under warranty, the only explanation given was "the motherboard was remounted" but nothing specific. worked fine for a couple of yrs, then same symptoms.

2nd time it went to the repair shop, who diagnosed " a faulty fan" . Claimed to have changed it and it was fine..

but now, reading your site, it sounds more like the gpu fault - can you confirm the 6552 has the Nvidia gpu?
(if you trawl the net there seems to be plenty of 6552's with the same fault).
- I'm not too concerned over claiming for a repair,(its not exactly new!) but would love to know the cause of the fault
