A belated post but good news better than none. The success against Dell has prompted me.

I have, in April 2013, after correspondence going back to August 2011, received via the credit card company under section 75 (BOS) a refund of £374.18 (I didn't challenge the calculation as I had had nearly 3 years trouble free) for the laptop I had paid £352.49 for.

I just hope BOS extract this dosh from those I consider to be the villains (the retailer mal'OD'ourous) of the piece.

BUT...... no sooner than I get this dosh than the replacement (a Dell) starts to give out 'the seven beeps of death'!

Anyway, after much investigation, it seems that this may also be an inherent defect as Dell appear to be repairing all laptops with this issue, regardless of whether you have extended warranty. Just to let other forum readers know.

I would again like to thank Paul and his gang for his help and support.

Only remaining thing is to ask 'what do I do with the Medion which has been in a cupboard, untouched, since its return from Lapcure?

Does it have any further use, either by replacing the notorious part (would this require an 'expert'?) or canaballising or should it be consigned to the great IT recycler in the sky?

Many thanks again.

Hello Tony,

Firstly, well done on your success. :! :! :! :!

That is fantastic news and I am really pleased that you have managed to reach such a positive resolution. It is a shame that this was obtained via a Section 75 claim and I really do hope that the retailer is held accountable.

Regarding the old Medion, I would not bother trying to repair it as it will in all likelihood fail again. Your best bet would be to remove the hard drive and then sell it on Ebay stating its current condition. At least that will then enhance your refund.

To try and repair the laptop would be like throwing good money after bad.

Sorry to hear that the replacement laptop has failed. As a matter of interest which model of laptop do you have?

If there is yet another defect in Dell laptops then I would like to hear about it so that I can start shouting from the rooftops. :)

Well done again Tony, your persistence really did pay off. :! :! :! :!

Best wishes

Paul
