Laptop Make: Asus
Model: G1
Purchased From: Website Sale
Amount Paid: 3000
Date Purchased: 30 Mar 2007
Date Failed: 01 Jun 2012
Hi All,

I purchased an Asus G1 laptop in 2007. I was quite happy with it up until late last year (later half 2012).... that is until, finally, it happened. It works as normal but the GPU is screwed. The dreaded nvidia GPU defect finally got my poor little Asus G1. :(

I bought it online, and as it was all those years ago now, I no longer have a record of purchase... (ie. receipt, name of business i bought it off etc).

I'm not willing to let the little guy go!

My question is, (before i break out the heat gun as a last resort  , before euthanising it into the rubbish bin)...

Is there any recourse I can take? As i know it's the nvidia defect... can i get any compensation?
I'm not quite sure how to go about it... or whom to contact?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Adelaide, South Australia

Hello Rowan and welcome to my forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

To answer your question as to who would be responsible depends greatly on the laws in your land.

I would say that in your country you would probably have to pursue the Manufacturer, Asus, for developing and selling a product that had an inherent defect.

Of course it is not Asus' fault that the GPU's turned out to be defective but someone has to take the responsibility and ultimately that is the laptop manufacturer.

I am unfamiliar with the laws in your country and so am unable to offer you any legal advice, though I would advise that you do seek some free legal advice in your country to see what avenues you can explore.

I am sorry that I am unable to offer you any better advice.

Please let me know how you get on and what measures where necessary so that I can pass this information on to other owners in your country.

Good luck and best wishes with your claim.
