First of all, I would like to say that I only found very recently about the BGA defect, so I may not be aware of various things.

The story: I bought an HP compaq 6735s from ebuyer at November 2008 and from the beginning the fan was quite loud, but as it was my first computer ever, I though that this may be normal or specific to this particular model. After few months the computer started shutting down randomly, so after 6 months I took it to HP, cause it was still under warranty, and they changed the motherboard.

The first day the laptop was quiet, then the fan started again being noisy, but still an amateur, I though that this may be normal. I did some traveling in between for 10 months and then for 6 months and I did not use it during those periods, but the rest of the time I used it a lot.

A couple of months ago the laptop started again the random shut downs, so I send it to an engineer, who replaced the GPU. But it remained faulty and it wont start anymore. The leds turn on and the caps lock flashes five times, but it stays like this, with black screen.

So, I am wondering if I can still claim a refund from Ebuyer, even though it has been repaired one time by HP and then had the GPU replaced by an independent engineer who specializes in GPU replacements.

And if I can get a refund, do they keep the faulty laptop, or I am better off selling it as parts?

I would really appreciate any help on this frustrating matter. Thank you.

Hello Nicospanas and welcome to my forum.

Sorry for the delay in my reply as I have been away for a few days.

The fact that the GPU has been replaced and that the laptop has been repaired by HP is not a problem so do not let that put you off.

The important bit is that at the time of the repairs you did not know that the cause of the failure was due to an inherent defect. Not only that but you were out of warranty so how were you to know that the retailer was responsible for the premature failure of your laptop?

Ebuyer have resolved many, many cases involving owners of your model of laptop and this forum is awash with stories confirming that.

Whilst Ebuyer "may" try and refute your claim the evidence is overwhelming so be persistent and you will succeed.

If you have any questions or if you need any advice then please do not hesitate to ask.

Best wishes
