Hello Durris and welcome to my forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

I am sorry to say that whoever told you that your laptop was "probably faulty when you purchased it" was actually incorrect.

Your laptop contains an Intel GPU rather than an Nvidia GPU and are not prone to failure.

Unlike the Nvidia and ATI GPU's the Intel does not tend to get hot and so does not suffer from the same problems caused by thermal cycling.

It also contains an Intel Celeron processor which again is not as prone to failure as the ATI GPU's. I have inspected literally thousands of laptops over the years and have not experienced a failure in either the CPU or GPU that is incorporated into your laptop.

When you state that the laptop has totally died on you could you give me a little more information.

Do any of the LED's illuminate when you connect the power supply?

If so, do any LED's illuminate when you switch the laptop on?

Please let me know and I will advise further.

Best wishes

Paul

The laptop shut down unexpectadly a couple of times,
Then I put it on to charge and it would,nt charge no lights
I have had the adapter, charging cable, socket and battery all checked
and they are all fine.there is obviously no power now, also removed battery
and tried to connect it from power cable
this laptop has not been abused in anway has not been moved around
no food or liquids around it
so nothing obvious
it is 2 years old

Hello Durris,

The problem with your laptop could be something as simple as a failed component.

Whilst you do have six years from the date of purchase to file a claim when a product fails due to an inherent or manufacturing defect, you also have the same period to file a claim when there has been a catastrophic failure of the laptop.

That is not to say that a laptop should work for the six year period without requiring a repair, but when the cost of the repair is disproportionate to the original cost of the laptop or where, for example, the mainboard fails entirely, then you could make a claim against the retailer due to the fact that the laptop was not "durable" and that it did not last "a reasonable period of time".

There is no set definition as to what a "reasonable period of time" is, so this is based on the price paid, brand and specification of the laptop.

On average a laptop should last for five years, though if you speak to some of the retailers post-failure they would contend that a laptop should only last for 3 to 4 years.

Basically if it is something as simple as a failed component that is the problem then you would not be able to make a claim against the retailer. If the mainboard has failed beyond repair then you could make a claim.

Would you like me to take a look at your laptop to see if it can be repaired at component level? If so the cost to repair, including the collect and return carriage, would be £65.

If upon inspection it transpires that the mainboard has failed in its entirety, then I would produce a report for you and the cost, including the collect and return carriage, would be £65. This sum would be recoverable from the retailer.

Would this be good for you?

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul
