HI everyone,

I cant believe how patient you all are!! For those that do not want to waste their time with the out of warranty forms - [email protected] is the chief executives email. My HP g6000 broke 6 months out of warranty. I have offered a £40 voucher by way of refund, by the calculations on this site that is certainly not fair and reasonable. They have made an offer without having the tech report and have not even queried the fault, but I think they were just hoping to blow me off with a tesco voucher.

I have just sent a letter before action due to incompetent responses I am getting from the CEO customer services but hope that after this letter they may take me seriously.

I will keep you all updated on how I am getting on.

Hello Layla and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

A number of members have reported how Tesco's offer of a refund has either been insultingly low or they simply try and fob claimants off to the manufacturer.

Don't let them fob you off. Stand your ground, stick to your guns and, most importantly, be persistent.

If you need any help along the way then please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul

Morning,
Had a negative response from tesco, they have constantly given me misleading advice so was thinking of making complaint to office of fair trading over their consumer practices, it seems however the oft will not take individual complaints and have a contract with the Citizens advice, however surely as a group we should be able to make a collective complaint. I am having a look further round the site to see if anything has been posted about it, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Layla

TBH I dont know where to start, I think I am shock LOL, well firstly they havent even bothered requesting to see the laptop or request an engineers report, they told me that it I out of warranty, and I had to deal with HP directly and have just apologised and sent me a £40 moneycard voucher by way of refund. Now I know this is generally what people are getting from stores, but I am talking with The CEO office who Nothing I have said has been acknowledged not even my rights as a consumer and this is the CEO!! I am about to start a law course and deal with alot of various consumer issues, I have never experienced this level of contempt from a head office!

Hello Layla,

In that case Tesco should hang their collective heads in shame. Has nobody at Tesco any idea of what Consumer Rights are or what the Sale Of Goods Act means?

Obviously not!

Don't let this put you off though Layla. Tesco are clearly in the wrong and it is now time to ratch things up a notch.

You will now have to obtain an engineers report which will prove conclusively that your laptop is indeed inherently defective. Once you have done that you should send Tesco a copy along with a final letter before action.

If they still refuse to capitulate then you should sue them as you really cannot lose.

No wonder they say "every little counts" because the £40 that they offered you sure was "little" - in fact, in my opinion, it was insulting.

The sooner that companies like Tesco get the message that they cannot treat their customers with such disrespect and disregard the better.

It is also an offence for any retailer to purposefully attempt to remove or reduce a customers Consumer Rights or their rights under the Sale Of Goods Act so I would lodge a formal complaint with the Trading Standards.

Please let me know if you would like me to provide you with a report.

Remember one thing Layla, persistence is the key to success. You will only be fobbed off if you allow yourself to be fobbed off.

If you have any questions then please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul
