I have hp2699 ea laptop purchased in the year 2008i when i was in muscat oman.It have faced similar problems due to defect hp nvidia chip like Blank Screen problems,Laptop hot/overheating,Laptop can't detect wireless card. My laptop finally gone off in the year 2010 when i was in india and my laptop was inot in a warranty. I have shown this to nearest hp authorized service centre where they told that mother board gone and needs to be replaced extra cost . since it is a fault of manufacture Can i get any compensation ? if yes i can provide the full model details.

Hello Siva and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

Your laptop contains an Nvidia 8400 GPU (GPU REV G86-630-A2) which is widely reported as being defective and is failing in huge numbers.

Furthermore, on the 8th April 2008 HP released an upgrade for the BIOS in your laptop named F.2A. One of the “fixes/enhancements” of this upgrade is, according to the HP website, to

“Turn the system fan on at the lowest speed when the notebook is powered on.”

This proves that as early as 8th April 2008 HP were aware of a problem with your model of laptop - otherwise why release a BIOS update that switches the fans on continuously to the detriment of the battery?

I also note that this update was released six months BEFORE you purchased the laptop. Why did HP allow the continued sale of your model of laptop after they released this BIOS update?

I note that you live in India and the laws are very different there so I am unable to advise as to your rights and would advise that you seek some free legal advice in your country to see what options are available to you.

You could also contact HP and tell them about the inherent defect and the BIOS update and see if you can get them to offer some form of a resolution. I would also inform them how the BIOS update was released before you purchased the laptop and that they must have known your model of laptop had issues long before you purchased it.

I am sorry that I am unable to advise on your rights but I am totally unaware of the laws in your country.
