Hi everyone, found this most informative site this evening after being "under the bonnet" of my 6735s this afternoon. Thought I'd share a couple of thoughts if you don't mind.

Today marks the third time I've dismantled the thing, cleaned out the dust to make it run cool n quiet. Today I performed a modification to the case by drilling holes to allow more air to get into the fan. The laptop is now 4 years old so I didn't have a problem in doing this but after seeing so many "another dead 6735s" threads here I'm regretting ever taking it apart as surely if I tried to make a claim in the future ebuyer would do naff-all knowing I've personally dismantled the thing (rounding off several screws in the process - oops) several times before. Should the BGA fail I'd be trying the oven trick anyway - nothing to loose!

I'm seeing these fail from when they were relatively new to 4 years old so I'm guessing mine could go pop at any time? I've had screen issues, overheating issues, wi-fi issues but I've seemingly fixed them all - the screen was a loose ground screw, for example. Perhaps I'd better start saving some pennies!

I've always been happy with the 6735s, apart from some design "issues" (HP are not alone in this regard I'm sure) it is a well made, decent machine and with Win7 on it takes everything I throw at it with ease - it happily streams HD video wirelessly to my TV for example. I've spilled drinks and bowls of cereal on it, the kids have used it, it's been dropped on the floor 100s of times - I honestly thought it was indestructible.

Anyway thanks for reading, hopefully it'll be a while 'til I have to think about baking the mobo! :)

Hello Bob and welcome to my forum.

Sorry for the delay in my reply.

The HP 6735s is an absolutely awful laptop and its design leaves a lot to be desired.

You could be one of the lucky ones and your laptop may not fail due to the BGA defect, though it is highly possible that it will fail.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you. :x

If and when it does fail then you know where we are.

Good luck and best wishes
