I thought I would share my success story because I have this forum (and my technically-minded brother!) to thank for it!!
I bought my reconditioned laptop (Acer Aspire 7720g) in 2010 from Dixons Online. It had a few problems from the start and I tried downloading new software, using an external fan etc., but eventually it was crashing every time I turned it on and finally died in July. I thought I had just been unlucky until my brother did some investigating and heard of the Nvidia defect.

To cut a long story short, I followed the advice on this forum and emailed Dixons. I have to say they have been brilliant throughout, they contacted me the next day, collected my laptop for free so that their engineers (a company called Knowhow) could look at it, and have phoned today to offer me a refund of £200 (about the same amount as the online calculator gave). They were already aware of the defect, which meant that they knew a repair wouldn't work in the long term.

The whole process took less than a month (I reported the problem on 17th September). I am very happy with the outcome, so a big thank you to everyone on this forum and also big credit to Dixons and Knowhow for such good customer service.

Hello Christine,

Well done on your success. :! :! :! :!

Well done also to Dixons for making your claim so painless.

It is a shame a certain other high street retailer cannot treat their customers in the same way without constantly allowing the claimant to pursue them through the small claims court.

I love to hear stories like yours and so I am glad your brother found my forum and that the information on here was of use to you.

Well done again and all the very best for the future. :! :! :! :!

Best wishes
