Hi all

My HP laptop is 3 1/2 years old and has the affected nvidia graphics chip that is mentioned on this site. I have contacted Staples and provided them with the indepentant report they have requested, and they have agreed that my laptop is inherently faulty. However I paid £649.99 and theyare only offering £400 inclusive of £50 engineers report, compensation should I except this or am I intitled to the original retail amount paid £649.99 3 1/2 years ago plus engineers report. Please advise.

Thanks

Edward Webber

Hello Edward and welcome to our forum.

Based on the information you have provided I have calculated that the minimum refund you would be entitled to is £261.80 excluding the report or £311.80 including the report. This is based on an expected 72 months of use.

Therefore Staples offer of £400 is very reasonable and I would recommend you accept their offer. You would not necessarily be entitled to a 100% refund as this would place you in a position of "betterment", which basically means that you would have a full refund plus 3 1/2 years of free usage.

Staples are and always have been a very good company and whilst most retailers would offer a refund which would be in line with what I calculated at least they have upped the minimum amount.

I hope the above helps.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul

Im using Jacket on an Asus eeepc 1015PN with Ubuntu 10.10. I installed the newest nVidia drivers from their website and Jacket works even though this is an Optimus machine. When Ubuntu first installed and pulled down the restricted nVidia driver from the Ubuntu repos, Jacket worked as well as far as I can remember.

I can step you through any issues if needed. Getting Ubuntu completely up to date driver-wise was pretty straightforward.
