In Dec 2007 I/we (my family) bought 2 x HP G6031EA's from Staples

Having had the machines for 3 years, we all assumed its time to say goodbye (when power button pressed, they just turnt off automatically) My HPG6031EA was faulty from day one, touchpad dead, wi-fi dead - but all these didnt bother me as didnt want the hassle of returns/fixes etc, a usb mouse and usb wifi dongle cured these gremlins.

I did however smell a rat, when both machines lasted exactly 3 years and died on the same month (Dec 2010).

I decided to look into the fault and found this excellent site with the very helpful Paul of Lapcure.

Following the very simple, no hassle steps - I took the packed laptops to DHL depot (as I wasnt in for collection as organised by Paul) Paul was kind enough to 'combine' postage within the overall report cost as I sent both laptops in one box.

A few days later, even on a Saturday morning- I got the reports back via email to prove they both were indeed inherantly defective.
I emailled Staples whom previously said proof of purchase and an engineers report is needed. I dealt with a wonderful young lady the whole time. Having forwarded the above with Lapcures email reports on a Sunday, the very next morning within 45mins of Staples Customer Services being open I had an amazing no need to quibble result. I assumed I would be stuck with vouchers - but no as immediately Head Office agreed to sending a cheque.

The only stipulation being, I wont get the cheque until I take both laptops to any staples store for 'recycling' - they allowed me to keep the hard drives with my data on. I told them I would take them to a certain store - I was then greeted by the man I was told to speak to at the store - who then called the young lady I was dealing with. And no sooner had I left the store, the said young lady called me to ask where to send the cheque, and that its on its way!

Admitadly I did email the fact I would like a refund or 2 new laptops - I guess I was being cheeky, but then I am not the one at fault here, HP is! I expected the rule of, a laptop should last 5 years. Mine lasted 3 years. So I should receive 2 years worth of 'non-use' by way of refund or vouchers.

I feel guilty Staples have to pay out for HP or Nvidia's wrong doings -
I can only assume Staples retrieve something back off HP or Nvidia - as what staples refunded in cheque format was approx 75% of the 2007 selling price!

So an excellent result, I cannot thank Staples enough.

I would go to Staples to buy a new laptop (or two), but to be fair they seem to sell mainly HP, I dont think I will ever buy another HP judging by the problems with them on this site!

Thank you to Paul @ Lapcure for helping with this.

IF YOU'RE GOING TO BUY A PC, LAPTOP, NETBOOK ETC OR ANYTHING FOR THE OFFICE OR HOME USE STAPLES AS BY FAR THEY ARE QUITE POSSIBLY THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE TEAM I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. And no, I have no affilation with Staples!

Hello Cjack,

What a wonderful result for you. :! :! :!

I agree with you. Staples really are one of the best retailers on the high street.

It was not their fault that they sold laptops that were inherently defective, but they are sure stepping up to the plate when it comes to resolving the situations. Not like some other retailers who I will not name!

I would recommend Staples to anyone wanting to purchase laptops or any other products, which is certainly something I couldn't do with some of the other retailers.

I all my experiences of dealing with members who have purchased from Staples I have heard nothing but excellent reports.

I should stop as people will think I have shares in the company :@

Seriously though, well done again on such a positive result :! :! :!

Thank you also for your kind words - much appreciated.

I am really pleased that I could have helped you reach this very positive resolution.

Good luck and best wishes for the future.

Paul
