As tesco are setting themselves up as a shop for all reasons, wanted to know what repsonses others have had from them.
Brought a HP-G6000 in April 2008 it lasted until October 2009 until it decided it did not want to work anymore and although the guy in the store was very nice it seems tesco like to delay any action they take. I am being sent an "out of warranty" form to fill in (can't be Emailed) which will then go to the specialised customer service team for assessment.
Has anyone else seen one of these forms or had dealings with Tesco. The more we know the better equiped we are.
Cheers
Fryball

Hi
I have just tried to return an HP G6000 (G6062EA)o the Tesco store at Stevenage, advised must have proof of purchase, a receipt, when I advised that it was purchased on 22/4 /2008 using a credit card was advised store only held records for 3/4 weeks; Told the correct process is to to ring the electrical helpline on 0845 4566767 as over 28days since purchase and that the store cannot deal with this.......will update after call

We also had a discussion on why I was returning the Laptop to them when HP were the manufacturer ;)

Very matter of fact conversation with Electrical Helpline

Are sending me an "out of warranty" form. Tried to put me through to manufacturer I refused, were unable to email or fax the form.

I've had to buy another laptop in the meantime so I am prepared to go doggedly through the process no matter how long it takes and will update each step as it occurs if that's is of use to anyone

Hi

I have received the OTM Oot Of Warranty form from Tesco ( i have received conf from Egg that I paid £379 for the laptop )

Everything on the form is standard, but is there a particular way to word "Description of the Fault" ?

PS i've scanned the blank form so i'll email it to you for the record

I would put the following:-

"The laptop has failed due to an inherent manufacturing defect in the Nvidia Video Chip (GPU). This is a known defect and is affecting laptops worldwide"

Says everything you need.

Good luck and best wishes

I received my reply from Tesco today dated !0/2 "this is why we have a process in place that allows the chance to give our customersa gesture of goodwill towards the original value of the product.

You won't be surprised to learn the value of the cheque I am expecting to receive within the next 28 days is the ubiquitous £152. I paid £379 in April 2008

I am tempted to challenge the goodwill gesture bit. go ahead and get an engineers report and prove to Tesco it is an inherent fault and that it is not "an occasion when a product does not last as long as we expect" thus qualifying for a goodwill gesture. I may wait until I received the £152 and see whether or not they place any conditions on it.

As a matter of interest the HP laptop (which they have not asked for back incidentally) my colleagues at work advise me is worth a few pennies sold off as spares on Ebay, has any one any thoughts on this please?

Hello Cushley,

I would reject their offer of £150.

They sold you an inherently defective laptop and now they want to make you think they are doing you a favour by offering you a "gesture of goodwill".

I would tell them that unless they refund you in full or replace the laptop then you will take further action against them.

If your were to sell your laptop on Ebay and list it as defective you would fetch between £100 and £120.

If you add that on to what they offered you would have a refund of roughly £250 - £270. Not a great deal I admit.

It is up to you really, do you want to press ahead and start the next stage or do you want to call it a draw and settle for what is currently on the table.

The decision is yours Garth.

Good luck and best wishes

Am watching this thread with avid interest as our G6000 was bought at the same time from a Tesco store and gave up the ghost yesterday. To say we are unimpressed would be an understatement, and while the priority is to recover the data from the hard drive, I am considering taking a similar course of action.

Paul, can you confirm if our model has a defective chip. The P/N number is KH959EA#ABU. Many thanks in advance.

Hello Whizard and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear your laptop has failed.

What problems is it displaying?

Your laptop contains an Nvidia Geforce 7000M GPU which is failing in huge numbers.

The chances are that it is very likely your laptop is inherently defective.

If you have any questions or queries then please let me know.

Best wishes
