Yesterday we finally got a new laptop out of PC World for our HP dv2630ea, which was struck down after about 2 and half years, so out of warranty. It took about 6 months in total, but PC World finally accepted they were liable. Thanks, Paul, for your 'Letter Before Action' which did the trick. It was the Tech Guys at PCW who initially diagnosed the problem as the Nvidia defect and suggested we check out your forum. PCW suggested a repair, but eventually offered a fair settlement in the form of a voucher. Result is we have now got a brand new laptop. We opted not to get another HP but a Toshiba instead (as we have a Toshiba which is still going strong after 6 years). The specs are better than our old HP, so we are much better off than having a repaired laptop. Very happy with the results!

Hello Steveandtania,

Well done on your success :! :! :! :!

I am really please that you have managed to reach this positive resolution.

Whilst I dislike recommending laptops to forum members (one man's wine is another man's poison) I have to say that Toshiba are one of the best manufacturers of laptops and wipe the floor with the likes of HP when it comes to reliability and build quality.

I find HP laptops to be poorly designed and to be one of the brands that fails the most.

In fact, you don't have to take my word for it, take a look here:- http://www.squaretrade.com/htm/pdf/Squa ... y_1109.pdf

HP rank bottom when it comes to reliability with a reported failure rate of 25.6%.

How bad is that! - almost 26 in every 100 laptops that HP sell will fail prematurely. I am glad that my laptop is a Toshiba :D

I am also pleased that the Tech Guys pointed you in this direction so well done to them for that.

Well done again, I am really pleased that we could have helped you.

Best wishes

Paul
