Hey all,

I'm posting this story because I want to thank both this forum and the Mediamarkt, the store I bought my Sony laptop, because with the help of this website and the cooperation from the store I have a replaced mainboard free of charge.

In May 2008 I bought my Sony Vaio (VGN-FZ38M) from a Mediamarkt store (a large electronics warehouse). In December 2011 it failed with lines appearing across the screen, colour defects and no video out. Googling these symptoms, I found this website and, most notably, this link in which Sony admits to the fault and gives four years warrenty on (among others) my laptop model.

I had lost my original receipt, but with a lot of effort from me and help from the Mediamarkt service center they managed to recover the original receipt using my banks information (date & time of purchase). This did not go as smoothly as I hoped, but of course it's an extra service and my fault in the first place for losing the receipt.

After this I went to the service center again, this time with my laptop, copy of the receipt and print-out of the web page mentioned above. I was expecting some difficulty, having read some of the horror stories here. But they accepted the laptop with no trouble whatsoever, sent it off to be repaired (probably by Sony, but I don't know) and after two weeks I had my laptop back with a replaced mainboard and no charge. Note they didn't require proof that it was the Nvidia fault, but just took it in.

Due to problems with wifi after repair (very poor reception), I had to go back the next week and this too was fixed (free of charge), taking slightly more than a week.

So thank you, nvidiadefect.com for providing me with information and linking me to the website where Sony offers extended warranty, and thank you Mediamarkt for fixing this with no questions asked, even though I had lost my original receipt.
