Hi Paul!
Thank you for such a fast response!
It may be that this GPU is far too fussy about heat, irrespective has Nvidia and/or Sony come up with a direct pin for pin RELIABLE replacement GPU ?
As you will well appreciate it is pointless replacing components that are positively doomed for premature failure!
Kind Regards, Keith.

Hello Keith,

Well, there are some replacement GPU's available, but unfortunately these are not incorporated onto all boards and are only available as a separate component.

So the mainboards that are available as spare parts have, in all likelihood, a defective GPU bonded to them.

This means that the only way a retailer/manufacturer can resolve this problem is to remove the old GPU and replace it with a newer one.

The problem with this is that this type of repair is generally not as reliable as one that is bonded at the point of manufacture of the board.

Saying that, not all the generations of GPU's have had new revisions released so depending on the GPU in question will determine whether or not one is available.

Some companies do try to reflow or reball the GPU's but again this is unreliable and whilst it may get the laptop working again it does not remove the inherent defect that the laptop contains.

Due to the way the industry is moving with regard to lead free solder I am seeing an exponential rise in the number of failures in laptops incorporating other GPU's, such as the ATI.

Again I will reiterate that in all the laptops that I have inspected dust/debris was most certainly not the root cause of failure.

I agree with you when you state that "it is pointless replacing components that are positively doomed for premature failure!"

Best wishes
