Hello Saky and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing with your laptop.

It sounds like your laptop is on the fringes of failure but hasn't quite failed yet.

The fact that you paid by cash is not a problem as long as you have a receipt so you can prove purchase.

I have inspected quite a number of your model of laptop and they were all found to be defective.

The fact that your laptop contains the 8400 GPU, which is one of the more prolific of the defective GPU's, then I would say it is probably highly likely that your laptop is indeed inherently defective.

You will need to keep using it until it fails again and then the defect can be proved.

If you have any questions or if you need any advice then please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul

well it is down now.
for last few hrs i was trying to run almost all possible repair tools but nothing.
normal load of windows is impossible only safe mode and i cant access drivers like usb or my second hdd so i im not able to save or move all my important folders there :b :b
now i just remembered that same fault i was having about 1.5 yrs ago and have send it to servis as it was still in waranty. but i havent any idea by that time about this nvidia problem!
is true that if the laptop ws already in servis so the waranty time will be extendet by that time? because i have payed 1700 euro for laptop and extendet waranty and that waranty has expired only on february. so now im confused if i should send it again to sony servis or go to pcworld and ask for refumd as this was well known defect on that time and nobody told me and this is now basically the same problem.

biggest problem for me will be AGAIN lost all folders like also pictuers from holidays and all other pictures and ofcourse thos almost 1700 spend for faulty product leaving me now on the edge of thinking what will happened and what chance do i have. becuase those laptops are cheaper now then they were 3 yrs ago so few 100 euros wont make me happy now.

BTW im not on my laptop but on nokia n900 so at least i have any contact with world now and can access this forum or my email.

Hello Saky,

I would go to PC World as they are the ones from whom you purchased the laptop.

Don't worry too much at this stage about the information on the hard drive as that is still safe and can be retrieved,

You have stated that you paid 1700 euro so I take it that you didn't purchase this in the UK.

Please could you let me know which country this was purchased in so I can advise further.

Best wishes

o.k.
i just managed to get to normal mode by uninstaling nvidia drivers so i can copy all my important folders :x :! :!
so at least something will be saved and i wont be so angry, but still the fact about all those same problems with nvidia makes me sick.

Hello Saky,

No problems, your English is very good.

Your next step is to go to the branch where you purchased the laptop. When you get there you should tell them that your laptop has failed because of an inherently defective GPU.

They may tell you that you are out of warranty. You should tell them that the warranty status is irrelevant as you have six years in which to take action.

They may tell you to contact Sony. You should tell them that you purchased from PC World and not from Sony so in law it is PC World's responsibility to resolve the situation.

There is a step by step guide on this forum that will help you reach a positive resolution and that is here:- post13.html#p13

If you follow my advice in that guide then you will be successful.

If you have any questions or if you need any advice then please let me know.

Good luck and best wishes

in the morning im prepared to go to PcWorld and make it clear what I think and will have done.
i dont have a problem to speak with PcW director if I will find him
like i post before i was having the same problem before but didnt know about this problem before only now when it happened again!!
before i was still having extra waranty so it was shipped to sony service for free.
only now i found that most propably they just replaced the card with another faulty so this time i will knew what to say and ask thanks to your advices and this forum!
i already contacted sony but that was before i found this forum and they told me that they will contact me in next 7 days to take all details and to arrange curier and all those things, but now i will go first to PcWorld and try it there to ask for refund or replacement so i will take any new laptop and pay the difference.

do you have any advice about this - if i have payed almost 1700 euro how much can i be asking then??
coz thats what im not sure as it was back in 2008

o.k. so I was in PCW today told them everything about my problem and Nvidia and also that it was in servise before and most propably with this same problem, just that nobody informed me on that time what was wrong!
told them also about how sony wont agree also on other models, but they just took my details didnt even look on my laptop and told me that they will contact me, now I dont know if the guy was just trying to be nice but he said to me that I should be o.k. even the waranty is 4 weeks over.
problem is that I think they going to contact SONY if it is true about those Nvidia cards and we all know that SONY wont accept models that are not listed on "their" list. funny that Nvidia said that all those types are faulty but SONY choose only few. :c

s now I will just need to wait what will happen and when they will contact me and will tell me but I will stay with my true and will be asking for refund minimum 50% from price when I payed for it.
and also the fact that it was once before in servis and as far I can remember with same symptoms but Im not sure NOW as it was arround 1 or 1,5 yr ago.
and cant stop thinking IF they will agree to go for refund that HOW MUCH will they offer me because laptop and extra warranty all together was 1700 almost 1800 euro.
ANY advice from anybody will help me to be prepared.
