cant thank you enough for the wealth of information on this site, without which i would have got nowhere.
2 months back my packard bell ares gp2w special edition started getting hot regular, fan on constant from switch on,then crashing every five minutes, then i had an nvll warning message....finally wouldnt switch on whatsoever.stumbled on your website and nearly every symptom was the same as advised.rang an independent for a quote an he said (in his words)"your laptop is basically scrap".£650 for less than 3 years left me fuming.followed your advice and sent the" letter before action"that day,a week later pcworld replied askin to take it in for inspection.took it in to the store and was immediately told its out of warranty and nothing can be done!i explained the 6 year inherent defect law(which i new nothing about till reading your website)and showed them the correspondence.was inspected and yesterday i had a call offering £290(which is what i was expecting using your formula)i turned it down and then was offered 310 which i refused again...final offer of 340 was accepted.considering i thought id lost the lot im delighted with that.the advice on this website is first class and cant thank you enough.stand your ground is the key, dont let them fob you off.

Hello Villaboy,

Well done on your success :! :! :! :! :

I am really pleased for you and also that you have managed to reach this positive resolution without the need for litigation.

Thank you very much for your kind words in your post, much appreciated.

I couldn't agree more. Stand your ground, be persistent and never, ever let them fob you off.

Did they let you keep the laptop or did they take it back?

Well done again and all the very best for the future. :! :! :! :!

Best wishes

Paul

Hi Paul,
that was the first thing I asked as could have got a few quid for it on eBay for spares(£50-100ish)looks like there's quite a few of this model with the same problem being flogged for spares or repair, but they kept the laptop minus the hard drive.been paid out already.

When I started the process to get the ball rolling with your letter I went into it with a " it's gotta be worth a try"attitude but really expecting to hit a brick wall and fobbed off.how wrong I was.

Thanks again,
dave

I am really glad you chose to follow my advice. I can appreciate how some people could be a little apprehensive about pursuing the retailer for a refund but thankfully plenty of customers like yourself who have followed my advice come back here to report their success.

Well done again Dave and all the very best for the future.

Best wishes
