... if they went to court, they have no defence other than the tired old "it is out of warranty" but that is not a defence as this is a SOGA issue and not a warranty issue. Still, it will cost them much more if they do try to defend it, though if their defence is anything like the others ...

A different tack but with the same basic flaw - the laptop was inherently defective when it was sold to you and therefore is covered under SoGA.

I wonder if the solicitors are charging them for the unneccesary work they're doing :@
