Laptop Make: HP
Model: G6065EA
Graphics Card: 8600M GS
Purchased From: Direct From Manufacturer
Amount Paid: 0
Date Purchased: 02 Apr 2008
Date Failed: 09 Jan 2011
Hi
Bought a HP6065EA in April 2008, never had a problem with it until yesterday. Whilst in use the screen suddenly went white and the appearance of vertical and horizontal lines appeared both coloured and blcak and white appeared.
Managed to get back to the windows log in screen but the screen shot would fade quite quickly back to the lines mentioned above and when the screen was visible the laptop would not allow me to log in.
Rebooted the laptop and got the 'windows did not shut down correctly screen' again in the short time available before the screen faded it would not allow me to change to any of the options on the screen.
Can anyone help, I have read a lot on this forum about graphics card failure and wondered if this is the case and what is best to do next. Warranty has expired and HP want £15.99 over the phone to diagnose the problem which i refuse to pay.

The serial number is CNS8064KQS and the part number is KH948EA#ABU

Any advice on what the problem amy be and advice on what to do next would be greatly appreciated

Hello Andy and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

The problems that you describe are manifestations of the defect and I have seen it many times.

Your laptop contains an Nvidia 7000 GPU and is failing in large numbers.

I would now contact HP and would tell them that you believe your laptop is inherently defective due to the Nvidia GPU and that you want either a replacement laptop or a refund.

They may fob you off with different excuses. If they do then you should ask them for details of the address to where you can send legal correspondence.

There is a step by step guide on this forum that will help you through the process and that is here:- post13.html#p13

If you follow my advice in that guide then you will be successful.

The key to success is persistence. If you look through the forum all the members dealing with HP (or their solicitors Shoosmiths) received a positive resolution through persistence.

If you have any questions or queries then please ask.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul
