Hmm, very interesting:
On page one of this thread you show a comment from a member of staff at Comet saying that your laptop has been included on the list, apologises that this was not mentioned to you, and procedures have been put in place to prevent this happening again.

I believe I have the same model as you (dv9340ea), but in all my correspondance only the 1 year warranty has been referred to. The number of lies coming from Comet HO is overwhelming..

I've got a HP DV9292EU (April 2007) through comet and had the wireless card not being detected and then not starting up. It was a good thing I had a HP extended warranty which is due to run out in April. I sent it back for repair and they kept me waiting 4 weeks for the Hinge.
I'm fuming as I also took out a Comet Credit card to pay for this and still paying it. I'm currently stress testing the Laptop and think its been under clocked as the core speed is different from whats been shown.
I contacted Comet head office and they advised they needed to inspect it. I've still got the original receipt somewhere and will certainly going for both Comet and the credit card company.

Hello Sajj and welcome to our forum.

Well, if you paid for the laptop by credit card you should stop straight away.

You need to contact the credit card company and tell them that you believe your laptop is inherently defective and are currently in the process of taking legal action against the retailer.

They will probably want proof that your laptop is inherently defective and would prove this by way of an engineers report.

You should not let Comet inspect your laptop prior to you obtaining an independent report. Once you have this you should forward Comet a copy and then invite them to inspect your laptop.

After securing the report you should send this via recorded delivery to Comets head office and include a letter before action with it.

You should give them seven days to respond. If they do not respond in that time then your should pop on over to www.moneyclaim.gov.uk and file a small claims action against Comet. If you laptop is indeed inherently defective then your really cannot loose.

If you require any help or guidance in this matter then please let me know.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul

I am hoping I haven't ruined my chances of getting something back from comet. I only found this forum after I had already done the damage. I bought a tx1000 in feb 2007 from comet and around Xmas last year the wireless card went down followed by the black screen of death. I couldnt find the receipt so just forgot about it and bought a new laptop to use instead. I dug it out yesterday and after seeing repair techniques online I stupidly attempted to take it apart. I unfortunately broke one of the little connectors for the monitor (the smaller white one if the two) at this point I decided to put it back together and forget the repair attempt. I then found this forum and also found the receipt! How badly does this affect my chances, could this have happened by accident ( the monitor had been repaired within the warranty period because it crackled when you turned the screen. I feel really stupid and annoyed with myself but please could you advise me.

Hello Thornton.jul and welcome to our forum.

Don't worry about the cable as this is easily put right.

The part number for the cable you have damaged is DD0TT8LC008 and these are available on Ebay for around £17. They can be found here:- http://tinyurl.com/2bph7vu

All you would need to do is to purchase one of these cables and then replace the damaged one.

You are then good to pursue your claim against Comet.

I hope the above helps.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

Hi

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately it is the connection to the circuit board which is broken rather than the lead itself. Is there anything I can do about this.

Hello Thornton,

Well, I could take a look at it and see if I could repair it. It could be that I am able to de-solder the old connector and resolder a new one in its place.

I cannot say if it is definitely possible until I see it.

The cost, if it is possible, will be £45.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

Would this be vital to my case for getting a refund or could this be a separate issue?

Hello Thornton,

Well, it could be a separate issue as you were not to know when to attempted to repair your laptop that it was inherently defective and that you would have recourse against the retailer.

If I were to produce the report for you then I could document the fact that the connector is broken but that it is totally unrelated to the inherent defective that exists in your laptop.

I hope the above helps.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes
