I have just heard from HP today who have informed me that Unbelievably my unit was not affected by the NVIDEA Geforce 8400M / 8600M graphics processing unit issue. What are they saying - this chip is not in my unit or is it in my unit, but as it is an Australian model I cannot be affected. So now they have said no refund, or replacement.
Thanks
Tony

Hello Tony,

HP are unbelievable, how many more customers are they going to lie to by saying their laptop is not inherently defective when it so blatantly is.

I tested your laptop and proved it had the defect so I know that they are talking nonsense.

Furthermore, they released the BIOS "fix" for your laptop to switch the fans on 24/7 so how dare they say that your laptop is not inherently defective.

It clearly has overheating issues otherwise HP would not have bothered with the BIOS update. Are you able to sue HP in your country?

Regarding the previous email that you sent me regarding the alleged photo's showing liquid spillage, do you want a written statement to show that any such liquid damage must have happened post test and so would be irrelevant to the actual cause of the failure (if that was indeed your laptop in the pictures).

What do you think?

Best wishes

Paul

G'day Paul,

Thanks for your response.

The photos taken by HPs tech were supposedly taken on 22nd of March - 4 months before you had the laptop to do your check and report!
I was actually hoping to have the photos before you did your report so we could compare details. - Back in May, before I came to the UK I sent HP a registered letter requesting copies of these photos. This is the main problem I have had dealing with HP and it has taken the intervention of the Victorian Watchdog for me to actually get any photos.

On the point of the photos in my email, I guess I did not make myself clear: Normally, when photos are taken by a digital camera and saved to a computer harddrive (ie private holiday shots) you can right click on that saved photo, click on the properties tab and then select details and all the information appears regarding that individual photo (Time, date taken, model of camera used) This is called an exif file. With the photos emailed to me from HP if you follow the above proceedure no information is available. I am reliably informed that the information would have to have benn blocked or removed from the file after they were saved.

My question is - wouldn't you as a tech wish those details to be available to the customer so as to prove their legitimacy? :?

And just to clarify your query, yes i am suing HP

Thanks
Tony

Hi Paul,

Just keeping you updated on my claim and I have decided to take my laptop to an engineer for another inspection and some independent photos as it is confusing to me as the photos HP are saying are my laptop were taken before you inspected my machine.

Will keep you informed.
Thanks
Tony

Hello Tony,

I knew there was no liquid damage to your laptop. When I inspected your laptop there was absolutely no evidence whatsoever of this. Which can only mean one of two things. Either:-

1) The repair centre mixed up the job sheets and incorrectly logged water damage on your job sheet

or

2) They lied and there never was any evidence of water damage.

Considering that both myself and now another company have inspected your laptop and we both failed to find any evidence of the alleged water damage then I would say option 2 above would apply.

Not sure of that one Tony, maybe the thermal cut-out was set a little high so they have reduced it so the laptop cuts out at a lower temperature.

That is the only thing I can think that they can have done, but then who knows what they do when information regarding these updates is so thin on the ground.

I think it is safe to say that you are now well within your rights to proceed to court and would sue HP. I would also take legal advice to see if you can bring a prosecution for attempt to defraud in relation to the alleged water damage.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul
