Hi pkaulf,

I have the same model as you, bought from tesco in April 2008.

I am about to take my first steps in getting some sort of resolution to this... As we seem to have the exact same problem- I wonder how it went with Tesco?

Any advice would be great... from anyone....?
Thanks
J

Hello Julians, welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you have been experiencing with your laptop.

In order to get a refund or replacement laptop from Tesco's here is what you should do.

1) The first is to send a letter to their head office threatening a small claims action.

That can be downloaded from here.

You have to give them 14 days to respond, its procedural.

2) They will then probably tell you that there is a reverse burden of proof and that you will need to get an engineers report.

If they ask you to get a report then the cost of the report can be claimed back. We can provide you with this service if you require.

We have had numerous successes against most of the high street retailers - Tesco included.

Shortly after getting the report they will settle with you.

That is how it is going at the moment.

It will probably take you between 4 and 8 weeks to get a resolution, it may be less, but you will get a positive resolution if you persist.

If you have any queries then please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul

Just realised I hadn't updated my progress with HP for a bit.

Basically, nothing has happened :(

I was promised a call from second line support over two weeks ago. I chased this last week and was told that I'd been left a voicemail message (never received) and they would get someone to contact me again.

I will be chasing yet again tonight - the last time before I go back to the original plan of getting a report from Paul & going after Comet.

Mind you, I had a bit of fun last night - I received an email from HP asking me to complete a survey on how my query had been dealt with.

I really enjoyed filling that out

Hello Ciderboy,

The trouble is, chasing HP will get you nowhere as they are
legally not responsible for the failure - Comet are.

Chasing Comet will get you a far quicker resolution.

Best wishes

My HP G6000 was also brought at Tesco in April 2008 and has just died (look at the date). Although with 3 weeks to go until I have to hand in uni course work and no computer to work on I am in a state, I am also calmed by the fact it is a legitimate fault and not the product of my sons late night internet searches.
Keep in touch about Tesco's thoughts on the problem

Are you able to access another computer ? if so you should be able to take out the hard drive to retrieve your work.

With that out the way you can start the claim for a new computer / refund.

I am sure people on this site can help with the above if needed.

Hello Fryball and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you have been experiencing with your laptop.

Tesco's have, in my experience, been pretty fair in this matter.

If you go to the store and report the problem they will probably refer you to their head office.

Contact them and they will request that you get an engineers report on the laptop in order to prove the inherent defectiveness of your laptop.

If they do, then please let me know as that is a service we provide.

The cost of the engineers report can be recovered from the retailer.

If you need any help or advice on this matter then please let me know.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul

I too am having the same issue withe my G6065ea bought from comet in mach 2008, I contacted HP who have basically said there is nothing they can do short of out of warranty replacement or £200+ repair.
So after speaking with our productive friend google I found this site and I have decided that I am going to go down to Comet this afternoon and see what I can sort out, the only question I have is how do I go about getting a service report?
Do you have an engineer on this site or do you recommend a local engineer?

Thanks in advance!

Lee. YoYo!

Tesco

Are sending me an "out of warranty" form. Funny that these forms can not be Emailed and they take about 2-3 days to be sent out. did not realise that a company the size of tesco did not have Email facility. A more sceptical man than I might say that if you make someone fill in lots of forms and wait countless days for letters you will grow bored and not bother.

I agree with you on that.

Or why can't you collect one from your store?

Don't give up though, not matter how long it takes them to send you the form.

Good luck and best wishes
