Hi all

A friend of mine told me about his faulty laptop, I took a look as an IT professional and have summarised the following:

Laptop is a HP G6000 (specific model no. HP G6031EA)

Laptop would not boot up at all, power light comes on and optical drive spins once, screen remains completely blank.

Hard drive removed and tested in another machine - working OK

Memory removed, tested with different, working modules - still nothing

Tried external monitor - nothing

Tried on battery and mains power - nothing

---

Upon Googling I came across this forum, and lots of other posts regarding similar problems with HP laptops. I dont know the exact specs, as I cant get it turned on! I know the model no. and that it has an AMD CPU, and an Nvidia GPU (by the stickers on the top)

Laptop is approx 18 months old, out of warranty.

Any suggestions would be great - it sounds very much like what is being described by others here.

Thanks

Hello Fro5tie and welcome to our forum.

The laptop you have contains an Nvidia 6100 GPU and is also one of the known GPU's to fail.

In order to prove that the GPU is indeed inherently defective then a test need to be done on it which will prove this conclusively.

If you click on the following link post13.html#p13 you will see a step by step guide to reaching a positive resolution.

If your customer follows my advice in that post then they will reach a positive resolution.

If you have any queries then please let me know.

Best wishes

Hello Fro5tie,

Well, the best test in my opinion is the rework test.

This is where you use a rework tool to perform a partial rework of the GPU.

If the laptop works after this test then it is pretty safe to state that the GPU is indeed defective.

Hope this helps.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul, being interested when it comes to testing GPU etc,

I just read about your fore-mentioned Rework test, you make it sound like after performing this test....the laptop will work?!! I am intrigued! I'm sure it doesn't fix laptop as the report will conclude the nvidia chip is shot having done this

thanks

Hello CJacko,

When performing tests on these laptop one has to be able to state definitively that the laptop is inherently defective.

In order to be able to do this I have to perform a test which will prove that the Nvidia GPU is inherently defective. The test I perform is called a rework test and this involves the heating of the Nvidia GPU.

When this is done and the laptop is reassembled you find that the laptop is once again operational.

This is fully documented in the report as is the fact that the laptop will fail again after the test has taken place.

The fact that the laptop works after the test prove conclusively that the Nvidia GPU is indeed defective.

Having produced well over 600 reports using this method the retailers, manufacturers and courts have accepted the findings.

Don't worry about the fact that the laptops will arrive back to you in a working condition as it is also stated in the reports that the fact that the laptop is working does not mean that the inherent defect has been removed.

I hope the above helps.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes
