Hello again,

I just wanted to update you on my laptop fiasco.

HP has had it's Solicitors in touch with me since receiving my court summons, I thought they would give in straight away (as did my hot shot Lawyer mate), but they were still trying to make out I was being unreasonable. But I fought on, pointing out the facts to them & the other day they made me an out of court offer of either £322 (£60 less then I paid two years ago) or a new HP Pavilion dv6-2113sa - plus the £35 court fees. If I accept they wanted the old laptop back (no problem there, it's a heap of sh*t).

So I have decided to take the money so I can get myself a new laptop from a better make, one that hopefully makes decent products & looks after their customers a bit better (any suggestions?).

So thank you for helping me get this settlement, I am sure it's the mention of this Nvidia Defect that really helped my case.

Hello Beboi,

Well done on your success :! :! :! :!

I am really pleased that we could have helped you reach this positive resolution.

Isn't it typical of HP and their Solicitors to make out that you are the one being unreasonable - shocking behaviour if you ask me.

Well done again though and all the best for the future.

Best wishes

Paul

Hello!
This is my first time here so I'm not sure where to post.
I bought an HP G6032EA in November 2007 at a high street retailer, for £435. In June 2008 I had to have it repaired as it wasn't turning on. It was all well until today, when my wireless stopped working.
Do you think I might have the Nvidia defect?

Thanks!
Mel

Hello Mel and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing with your laptop.

When you say your wireless has stopped working, is the wireless LED blue or orange?

Is the wireless card visible in device manager?

Are there any entries in the device manager that have a yellow exclamation mark?

You stated that you had already had the laptop repaired once. Was this by the same company where you purchased the laptop and what did they do to repair the laptop?

Please let me know the answers to the above and I will advise further.

Best wishes

Hi Paul. Thanks for the reply.

The wireless LED is now orange.. forever.
There is no exclamation mark or visible wireless card in the device manager.
As the laptop was under warranty, I contacted hp directly and the repair was made by an accredited service provider. They replaced the main board (451914-001) and updated the bios.
I don't know if it helps, but my serial number is cnf7442g9p and the model number is gz974ea#abu.

Thanks again!

Hello Mel,

Well that certainly looks like the first stages of the Nvidia defect. The loss of wireless is usually closely followed by the complete failure of the GPU.

You should now contact the retailer from where you purchased the laptop and tell them that your laptop is inherently defective and that you are seeking a resolution.

There is a step by step guide available that will help you reach a positive resolution and that is here:- post13.html#p13

If you have any questions or need any advice then please let me know.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul

How can I be sure it is an nvidia defect? Only with an engineers report I suppose..
The problem is that I'm not sure if I can afford to pay for this cost and others and then lose the case and end up with less money and no laptop.
Anyway, tomorrow I will pop into the store and see what happens.

Yesterday I found this link that might be of interest for g6000 owners who are experiencing overheating:
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Hardware/H ... rue#M28704

Before I made the changes, my gpu was at 84* when idle and 94* running rthdribl. After, it went to 75* and 81*.

Hello again!
I went to the retailer today and was told that the company (mba technology) has gone bust. Is there anything I can do in this case?
Thank you!

Hello Melyosh,

Sorry to hear that the retailer is now out of business.

How did you pay for the laptop? If you paid by credit card then that could be an avenue that you could pursue.

Did you purchase in the UK?

Please let me know and I will advise further.

Best wishes

Paul
