Yes, they are still entitled to inspect your laptop after a report has been produced, but this should be done without delay and without undue inconvenience to you.



"An amicable party in such matters" Are they joking?

How many customer have had a horror story when dealing with them? How many customers have been dragged through the mill before they finally reached a resolution? Do they consider themselves to be an amicable party in those cases? I think not!

I would ask them exactly what their "inspection" will consist of and what will they offer you should your laptop be proved to be defective. What you don't want is for them to inspect your laptop and then repair it without consultation with you first.

'When a fault is reported to us, our engineers would run a series of tests to identify and isolate the fault. As I am not an engineer, I would not be able to be specific as to what those tests are. At present, Comet are not offering a replacement or refund. If the fault can be identified as a known defect, Comet would investigate if there are any known fixes to the fault with a view to repairing the fault. However, as we are yet to inspect your laptop, these scenarios remain hypothetical and any outcome may change once the fault has been detected.

Comet's aim is to ensure you have a working appliance by offering whatever support is appropriate to the circumstance.'

Well, their response does not fill me with confidence.

Especially when they said:-



You are advised to steer well clear of a repair unless they can offer you some concrete proof that it will be free of the defect.

They are not telling the truth when they say that they do not offer replacements or refunds as the many posts on this forum will prove to the contrary.

I would advise that you obtain your own independent report and then present Comet with a copy of that along with a letter before action.

They will then have seven days to comply. If they refuse then you should sue them via www.moneyclaim.gov.uk

If you would like us to provide you with the necessary report then please let me know.
