Well, mine was quick. My HP failed on 8th August (some 21 months out of warranty), and on 1st September I'd picked up a replacement Toshiba A660-11M laptop funded mainly by £600 in store vouchers.

Dealing with Currys has been a very pleasant experience, there's been no drama and I've experienced nothing but an an adult attitude from my case manager and other staff throughout. I really couldn't fault Currys in this. They stepped up to the plate and delivered a resolution that I was happy with.

Briefly, I sent them the letter before action and received a letter telling me the name of my case manager and a request to phone him. I phoned him, and he asked me to take the machine to a local store and get the staff there to phone him after they'd witnessed the machine's behaviour. While I was there I spoke to him again, he explained about the repair/partial refund options I'd be offered and I took the partial refund. A week later I've a shiny new laptop of a considerably better spec than my dead HP, and with the prices dropping to coincide with the new university terms I've paid just £150 for it.

I've also got to thank Paul (again) for maintaining this site, without it I dread to think how I'd have handled my HP failure. There's a wealth of information here, and I think that this site (and the many resources here) is starting to change retailer's behaviour! Kudos to you, Paul!

To everybody else, I wish you all the very best of luck in reaching a settlement that suits you. My case turned out to be very simply resolved, but I know that some of you have experienced some real horror stories. Keep the faith, and be assertive, and the retailer will have no option to comply with the law and settle with you.

Thank you for that, much appreciated and I am glad that I could have helped you reach this positive resolution.

Good luck and best wishes for the future
