There are a lot of posts on here about HP, Dell, Apple etc but few mention the Sony Vaio so I thought I would start this topic to give fellow Sony Vaio owners hope, rather than piggy backing on someone else topic which I had done up to now.

I have a Vaio NR32S which I am told has the Nvidia defect. Was put on to this forum by the company that inpsected my laptop and with the help herein have just started the process against PC World.

Thank you to the team here for all the excellent information, which I used successfully to bamboozle the Customer Service person at PC World head office earlier. Was a great feeling to be armed with the right information and to know how to address this issue.

Will keep you updated on progress.

Thank you for that, much appreciated.

Isn't it great to me armed with the knowledge necessary to prevent yourself being fobbed off?

They say that knowledge is power and there is nothing better than to use that power to tell them that you are right and they are wrong :D

Good luck with your quest and if you need any help or advice then please let me know.

Good luck and best wishes

Hi Earlofmarl,
I have exactly the same model with what i beleive is a graphics card issue. It would be great if you could keep us updated with your progress. I am a bit unsure of what to do next as Sony have refused to accept an issue with this model of Vaio

"Thank you for your e-mail.
Your VAIO does have a Nvidia 8400 Gt graphics card but unfortunately the fault your store is refering to is only applicable to other models.
We could arrange a repair but it would be billable.
Best Regards
Klas-Håkan Svensson
Sony VAIO-Link Technical Support"

I havent tried anything with Currys yet though

Hello Sthubbins and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you have been experiencing with your laptop.

You should concentrate all your efforts on Currys as they are the ones that are solely responsible for remedying the situation.

You should not pursue Sony as you have no contract with them, your contract is with Currys (Sales contract)

There is a step by step guide available on this forum that will help you reach a positive resolution and that is here:- post13.html#p13

If you follow my advice in that guide then you will reach a positive resolution.

Any questions please let me know.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Best wishes

Sthubbins,

Paul is correct in that there is no point in pursuing Sony. Having read a lot of the info on this site I didnt even bother with that avenue.

Reading the links regarding the Sales of Goods Act on here will also ease your mind as there is one on here that points out our laptops fail on many accounts in relation to the act. Sorry I dont have the link imeediately to hand.

PC World are obviously well aware of the problem because as soon as I mentioned Vaio and Nvidia I was imediately put on to the head office.

At the end of the day you have nothing to lose. If you don't try you have no way of getting your money back. If you try and fail at least you have a nice large paperweight and the satisifcation of giving it a go, and you never know you might just win and get some or all of your money back.

Letter Before Action was sent Recorded Delivery yesterday so I await a response.

Received the expected standard response from PC World (DSG Retail), saying how sorry they were and offering to have their in-house experts have a look at it.

They also say they will accept a report from a qualified independent engineer, so I will be following this route and getting a report from the people who originally diagnosed the fault. Not going to let PC World have the laptop, as god knows what they will do with it.

So on to Step 3 of the guide.

Pretty standard response so nothing to worry about there.

Good luck with the next step and please let me know if you need any advice.

Step 3 completed.

I now have my engineers report that states that my Nvidia G84 chipset has a known manufacturing defect, have an above average failure rate, and are not fit for purpose.

Think that proves "inherent defectiveness".

On to step 4
;)
