Hello Stubbers,

Quote:
You have to appreciate I paid a lot of my hard earned money for this laptop and
would have expected it to have lasted far longer that it actually did as it is essential for my university studies.

I have identified a laptop from your online website at the same retail price as my original purchase and will accept this in full and final settlement of my claim. You should bear in mind that the costs to yourselves if this proceeds to the small claims court will be far more than if you settle now. I would appreciate a speedy conclusion to this matter as I need a laptop for the continuation of university studies.

I have read a large number of similar shocking stories of other innocent customers' efforts to receive refunds for inherently defective laptops they have purchased and I am very confident of a successful outcome.

I have only tweaked your letter slightly, what do you think?

Best wishes

Paul

Thats great.

I may add that I may have already made a purchase in which case a reimbursment is made.. because i go on a field trip next week and need something by then. I dont expect to hear from them very soon??
also adding this underneath...

I am also requesting the £139.99 extended warranty I purchased with Comet as I feel it was mis-sold due to the product the warranty covered being inherently defective. Again I suggest this is simply reimbursed for the extended warranty I will purchase for the replacement laptop.

What do you think?

Hello Stubbers,

That is fine. Remember, you have every right to a refund of the extended warranty so don't let them fob you off.

Any questions please let me now.

Hi Paul

I sent the letter off recorded delivery on Tuesday.
I had a call from a lady today (cant believe I forgot to note down her name!) and she wanted to know where my laptop was, once I told her I had been and collected it from comet before it was sent in for repair she VERY STRONGLY ADVISED ME that it be sent in so they could take a look at it and see what the problem was. She also requested the serial number and product ID or something, which I believe to be on the label on the underside of the laptop which she would use to find out if my laptop is in fact affected by the 'nvidia issue'. When I mentioned getting an independent engineers report she told me that under the terms and conditions of the extended warranty that by giving it to someone other than comet for investigation would be voiding the warranty. So I reminded her that the extended warranty had already run out in early July and the reason I tool it back into comet in the first place as because I read that any repair work carried out my comet was under a further 3 month guarantee.

Im not at home at the moment but my plan now is to send another letter containing, as requested the serial number and product ID or whatever it is and maybe even a photograph of the label in the letter. She told me that I had also sent the letter off to the wrong address ( Comet Group plc
Comet House
Three Rivers Court
Rickmansworth,
Hertfordshire,
WD3 1FX)
and to instead send it to their Hull address. She assured me that this was on their website but I cant seem to find it.

What are your thoughts and can you help me with the correct address please.

Many thanks once again. Chris

I am intrigued! As you have emphasised "she VERY STRONGLY ADVISED ME" what did she say to you?

If your laptop is indeed inherently defective then would the warranty be still valid? I think not!

Besides, you should also be eligible for a refund of the extended warranty as the laptop that the warranty was taken out on was inherently defective.

The address for Comet is as follows:-

Quote:
Comet
George House
George Street
Hull
North Humberside
HU1 3AU

If you have any questions then please let me know.

Best wishes

Hi Paul

She just used the words 'very strongly advise you', and then repeated it a few times to everything I said to her. If I said that I wouldn't accept a repair, she said it again. And then when I said that I would first get an independent engineers report, she said it again. It seemed that she wasn't allowed to say anything else.
I have a feeling that If I did send it to them first they would..... well, lets just say, not be honest. So don't worry I wont be doing that!

Thanks for the address.

Chris

Hi Paul.

I've been on holiday, hence why its taken me so long to update you. I only managed to get the letter containing the further details of my laptop in the post last week. I have just received a call from a woman, I think her name was Cath... telling me that Comet had been in touch with HP and had been advised my laptop is not one of those effected by the nvidia defect. So I told her that I would be seeking an independent engineers report as I know that my laptop does, as the problems I have experienced completely fit with those problems caused by the defect. So she said she would make a note of what I was planning on doing now.
Is the next step to send my laptop to lapcure??
If so Ill have to wait until my student loan comes in on Monday.

Thanks again, Chris

How many times have we heard that? And how many times were they wrong?

You would think that they could come up with something new to say wouldn't you?

You should totally disregard what Comet have said. Of course HP have denied that there is a problem with your laptop, they really do not want to have to admit that yet more of their product lines are defective.

Yes, the next step is the engineers report, but don't worry about the money just yet.

Turnaround time is five days but I have no problems if you have to wait to receive your grant. I can still produce the report and email this to you so you can start the ball rolling.

Hope this is good for you.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul
