Hi all....wifes HP PC appears to have died today, has the NVIDIA sticker on the outside, won't turn on, (blue LED's but no display, no hard drive sounds)
Was having a google and found this forum...all the issues the wife has been having over the last year or so! Was originally Vista seemed to get better after WIN 7 upgrade, has recently started to freeze up....always seemed to be running hot so was on a PC cooler stand.
Now has died completely......
Is there anyway of confirming that this is this issue? (Obviously can't turn on to run any of the checks) Sounds very familiar!! Seem to be in a good position as I purchased from Staples and have the receipt, was also paid by credit card.

All the best

Geoff

Hello Geoff and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you have been experiencing with your wife's laptop.

Well, the good bits of news are:-

1) You purchased from Staples
2) You paid by credit card
3) HP released this BIOS update for your laptop:- http://tinyurl.com/32f4fp2

The purpose of the above BIOS update was:-

Quote:
Turns the system FAN on at the lowest speed, when the notebook is powered on.

This update was release on the 8th April 2008, less than a month after you purchased the laptop.

HP should have informed you at this point of the potential for the premature failure of your laptop and you would have been legally entitled to have rejected the laptop. They didn't and know you are in this position.

So far everything looks good.

I would contact Staples in the first instance and tell them that you believe that your laptop is inherently defective.

If they do mention the fact that you are out of warranty you should tell them that the warranty is irrelevant as you have six years to take action when the goods are inherently defective.

They will then probably ask you to provide an engineers report. We can help you with this and have had great success with our reports. For more information please click on the following link:- need-an-independant-engineers-report-t62.html

From the problems you have described it certainly sounds like your laptop has the defect.

If you have any questions or if you need any advice then please let me know.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul
