Hi everybody, i'm new here, and i'm glad i found you all, I have some video problems with my friend's Laptop packard bell ares gp2w.
I read yours problems and I think I have the same problem.
I live in France, so I don't know if yours advices are applicable here.

The laptop was bought in 06/02/2008 at Boulanger in France.
It was very expensive, so we took a 2 years warranty, so the graphic problems appeared in 2009, with the same problems like in the topic packard-bell-ares-gp2w-video-problems-t182.html.
She has returned at the shop with the laptop, and it was still in warranty, and they changed the Motherboard.
The new warranty was until 13/03/2010.
It worked just fine for less then an year, and then the same problem : The screen some times is black ant other times is split in 8 little "pieces". And the vertical lines on the screen during post and sometimes present within windows.

In may 2010 I didn't knew what to do, then I found you guys.
Please, I need to know if the procedure works in France and what should I do?

My e-mail adress is kiosifmihai2003@yahoo.com
Thanks a lot !

Michaël

I spoke with Packard Bell France.
They had offered to repair the laptop at my charge ... so It risks to be very expensive.
I think I will send it to have an idea how much does it costs.
Hope that it won't be more expensive that the laptop !

Bye !

Hello kiosifmihai2003 and welcome to our forum.

Firstly, sorry I missed your first post.

How did you pay for the laptop?

If you paid by credit card then you would have extra protection and could take action against the card company.

I would be very wary about sending them your laptop for repair when they have told you that it will cost you.

Firstly, why should you have to pay for a repair and secondly they could charge any amount for the repair once they have done the work.

I do not recommend repairs to these laptops due to the lack of reliable parts so a repair really is out of the question.

Fingers crossed you paid by credit card.

Please let me know and I will advise further.

Best wishes

Paul

Hello.
Thanks for your answer.
Yes, the laptop was paid with a Credit Card, but I don't see any connection between the laptop and the card company.
But, I would like to hear gladly your suggestion !
Thank you
Michaël

Hello Michael,

Well, if you paid by credit card then that means that the card company is jointly liable with the retailer.

You can claim what is known as a Section 75 refund from the card company.

Give the card company a call, explain that the laptop you purchased on your credit card is inherently defective and tell them that you want to claim a Section 75 refund.

They will want to see a copy of your engineers report but once you have done that and shown proof that your laptop is indeed inherently defective then you will see things move pretty swiftly.

If you have any questions or queries then please let me know.

Best wishes

Hello,
My question is pretty simple : Where do I get an engineers report?
From Boulager or Packard Bell France?
Because at Boulanger all that they told me is that the Laptop is out of Warranty and has to be returned to Packard Bell for repairing.
What can I do to get an engineers report ?
Thanks a lot Paul ,

Michaël

Hello Michael,

You will need to get an engineers report that is independent from a laptop repair company in your country.

The repair company will have to be independent of the retailer, so it cannot be Boulager.

Do you know of any repair companies that can do this for you?

Which country are you in?

Best wishes

Hello,
I'm in France, and I will find a company who could make me an engineers report.
I hope that they will write in their report that the laptop is inherently defective.
If not, I don't think that I will have my refund.
Concerning the card company, I have to speak with the bank or I have to speak with MasterCard ?
Thanks again,

Michaël

Hello Michael,

You will need to speak to the card company regarding this issue.

Before you let the engineer look at your laptop you should ask him that if he discovers your laptop is inherently defective would he be willing to put this into the report.

I have noticed that for some reason some engineers are quite unwilling to actually document the fact that something is inherently defective.

Good luck Michael and please keep us updated on your progress.

Best wishes

Paul
