Hello Mp3hot and welcome to our forum.

Looking at your serial number I can see that your laptop was manufactured in week 26 of 2009.

I have seen similar overheating problems in other CQ60 laptops which were all related to the Nvidia 8200M GPU.

This does not mean that your laptop is definitely inherently defective, the overheating could be caused by blocked fans. Though the chances are there could be a problem.

I would leave Rthdribl running in full screen planet mode for an hour or so and see how high the temps get.

In fact, run multiple copies of the program and see how high the temps get.

Once you have the results then pop back here and let me know and I will advise further.

Please would you also let me know the temp at idle.

Best wishes

Paul

thanks for your reply lapcure , blocked fans? i dont think so , my model has only 1 fan which is under the laptop and i dont keep it blocked , i even installed a coolball on both side of the laptops to keep it cool . after 2 weeks the cool ball which is near the fan went off caz the heat melted the glue . the other coolball (on the right) is still attached but i have to remove it since it looks silly with only 1 coolball :)

i downloaded rthdribl_2_0 and i cant find where it shows the temperature , could you point me out please ? thanks . i forgot to mention that i removed Vista & got Win7

coolball pic :

Hello Mp3hot,

When I said blocked fans I didn't mean blocked externally.

The trouble with laptops is that they tend to suck in dust and dirt from the air and then this gathers between the fan and the heat sink aperture.

You would not necessarily see this blockage from the outside. I am not saying that your laptop is blocked with dust, only that it could be.

Regarding the temperatures, there is a second program that you need to download from our website called
GPU-Z.

Once you have that program you should run it to check temps at idle. Then run Rthdribl in full screen mode and check the temps under load.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

Hello Mp3hot,

I would only recommend opening your laptop if you feel competent enough to do so. Remember, if you don't know what you are doing you could damage your laptop.

I would say that you do have a problem with your laptop, 95c is way too high and this probably won't be caused just by dust.

You mentioned that you have just updated the BIOS. What are the minimum and maximum temps with the new BIOS?

Best wishes

Hello Mp3hot,

I would open the laptop and check that it is not blocked with dust.

If it is clean inside I would then consider chasing the retailer as you do have a problem with your laptop.

The temps that it is reaching are unacceptable and will certainly cause the premature failure of your laptop.

Buying a cooler for the laptop will only prolong the inevitable demise of your laptop.

The temperatures are definitely unacceptable.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best wishes

thanks for your answer , i bought this laptop 2hand with reciept , maybe after 2 weeks of usage it start overheating . thing is im not from UK and it would be a little bit hard for me to send it there and get it back . maybe he sold it to me cause it has overheating problems & i noticed this problem later .

anyways laptop i dismantled it .... removed dust from FAN , removed PCB and cleaned dust where it sucks air inside . i need to re-assamble it tonight and monitor the temps . i also ordered the Zalman Laptop Cooling Pads ZM-NC2000 and would monitor how it would perform with this cooler , it would take 2-3 weeks to arrive so ill post when ill have more news .

i also checked on ebay how much would a new pcb cost me ... well it seems that it would cost me more than i bought the laptop :) item number: 370249499969
