I do have a question, do you know if this problem affected earlier hp laptops? Namely DV 6000 with an nvidia go 7200 card i think,
as this also died in similar circumstances and currently resides under my bed

Hello Andy,

There are a whole raft of Nvidia GPU's that are affected including the 7000 range.

I would get the laptop out from under the bed, find your proof of purchase and take it back to the retailer.

Better that than just gathering dust.

In what year of manufacture did this first become apparent? As my DV6000 was purchased in Nov 2006 died June 2008.

Hello Andy,

Well, I have seen laptops that were manufactured as early as 2006 that have been affected by this defect.

It is very easy to tell what year a HP laptop was manufactured as this is embedded within the serial number.

If you can let me know the serial number of the laptop I will tell you the exact week of manufacture.
