Hello Paul,
I bought a HP Pavillion dv9700 from Tesco some 18 month ago and it appears I have the same issue as many of your other posts seem to suggest ie The Nvidia Defect. The symptoms started 1 week ago when the display would become pixillated and finally it give up and now all I get is a complete Black Screen. I am in the process of contacting Tesco when I find my reciept. Does this sound familiar please let me know.

Regards
Steve with no LAPTOP.

Hello Steve and welcome to our forum.

Well, it certainly sounds like the Nvidia defect, both the pixelization and the black screen are manifestations of the defect.

When you complain to Tesco's you should tell them that you believe your laptop is inherently defective.

Stand your ground and don't let them fob you off with the "sorry sir but you are out of warranty" or "you will have to go to the manufacturers"

Tesco's are solely responsible for the inherent defectiveness of your laptop as they were the ones who sold you it.

They may tell you that they need to send you an out of warranty claim form. No need to wait as a copy is available in the downloads section of our forum and that is here:- http://nvidiadefect.com/tesco_out_of_warranty_form.jpg

I have written a step by step guide to obtaining a refund and that is here:- post13.html#p13

If you need any help or advice along the way then please let me know.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Best wishes

Paul

Hi Paul,
Just to put you in the picture regarding my HP DV900 bought from Tesco, they basically gave me the run around so I have sent the OTM-Assesment to them and are waiting for a reply.
Now you are not going to believe this but I bought a Refurbished Dell XPS M1710 from a well known ebay shop back in December 09 for my daughter which cost £500, it has already failed once due to GPU and was repaired under the 3 month warrenty, bugger me it has gone again. The GPU is a Geforce 7950 GTX. Could I pursue this matter in the same way as if it was a New laptop. I have sent the ebay seller an email regarding this issue(no response as yet) Any advice would be much appreciated.

Regards
Steve with 2 broken Laptops.

Hello Steve,

I hope you don't mind but I have split your post from the original thread and have moved it here.

The reason for this is so that your post is in the right section of this forum and so that I can help you directly without confusion with the original poster of that thread.

I also changed the title of the thread so as to avoid any confusion with two threads of the same name.

Ok, onto your Dell laptop.

More proof, if it were needed, that repairs are not an option as there are no reliable parts available at this time.

How long was it since the repair that it failed again?

Was was the original warranty on the laptop?

How did you pay for it?

Please let me know and I will see if I can help further.

Best wishes

Paul

Hi Paul.

Finally received reply from Tesco offering me £240.00 as a refund for the intrinsic value of the laptop.
What do you suggest Paul ? shall i send of the letter before action as you have suggested.

Regards

Hello Steve,

I cannot believe they have offered you £240 against a laptop valued at £650 that was doomed to fail prematurely from the day you parted with your hard earned cash.

I would send them the letter before action as the next step.

Is it just me or do you find the offers that Tesco make are insulting?

Good luck with the next step.

Best wishes

Paul

Hi Paul,

I have had no response from Tesco whatsoever so i guess the next move would be to send Tesco the Letter with report. Am I correct ?

Hello Steve,

Yes, send them a copy of the report long with the template letter before action.

Give them seven days and if they fail to respond then you should proceed to the small claims court.

Good luck Steve.

Best wishes
