Laptop Make: HP
Model: G6065EA
Purchased From: High Street Store
Amount Paid: 400
Date Purchased: 12 Mar 2008
Date Failed: 01 Mar 2010
Model HP G6065EA / Motherboard 481861-001 /

My laptop used to be very hot when in use and then once or twice the screen flashed and only showed a greyish background with white lines running across it! Now it won't switch on for more than 2 seconds before turning off again - a few seconds later it trys to switch on again and then goes off - this action is repeated until the power source is stopped. The problem occurs when using either battery or mains!

After contacting Stapels I received this reply very quickly.

Thank you for taking the time to write to us regarding the problems that you have experienced with your laptop computer.

I am sorry to hear that the computer is no longer functioning correctly, and sympathise with your position.

Due to the age of the machine, consumer law states that there is a “reverse burden of proof” in demonstrating that the unit is inherently faulty, as opposed to damaged through misuse or wear and tear. An inherent fault would be one which was present at the time of purchase. Examples are:
• An error in design so that a product is manufactured incorrectly
• An error in manufacturing where a faulty component was inserted.

In this case, the onus is therefore on all consumers to prove the goods did not conform to contract (e.g. was inherently faulty) .

Please provide us with an independent assessment of the fault with an estimate of cost of repair.

If you have any more questions relating to this matter, please do not hesitate to contact us.

So my next move I guess is an engineers report.

Hello Twelsh and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you have been experiencing with your laptop.

You have an Nvidia 7000M GOY in your laptop which is one of the defective GPU's.

You are quite lucky to have puchase from Staples as they are one of the better retailers.

In order to proceed with an engineers report please click on the following link:- need-an-independant-engineers-report-t62.html

If you have any questions or if you need any help then please let me know.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Best wishes
