Ah ok this one is easy.

You have the G6000, which uses THE SAME board as the recalled board as the F500.

I made this post > http://www.hplies.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=870 about hte F500 and the F700 coverup.

The G6000 also fits into this coverup. I will just add/repost it here: I will put lines pertaining to the G6000 in bold italics:

Ok if we hit up PartSurfer....
Here is part surfer for the G6031EA (going from you model #) [g6000 was NOT recalled]

Here is part surfer for the F712NR [f700 was NOT recalled]

Here is part surfer for the F557US (my laptop...) [f500 WAS INDEED recalled]

WHAT'S THIS???
They use the same motherboard~~~???!!!!

Sue, and then tell them why would they cover and one and not the others? Why? Because they were covering it up. Clearly both laptops use the same motherboard, and 99% of their parts are the same.

If you check your BIOS update, it was updated on 12/14?/2007 just like the F557US was:
(It is even the same BIOS -_- WHY IS IT THE SAME BIOS??? COVERUP!)

G6031EA > http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/soft ... ct=3641394

This is the BIOS that was clearly done to speed up the fan (it says it...) and it was released in 2007, nVIDIA announced the defect in 2008, and when HP released the 'enhancement' in 2008, they were pushing a BIOS from 2007 down people's throats.

Additionally:

^ WHY IS ONLY THE F500 RECALLED?? Plastic doesn't make a big difference!

So now that I have given you a wellspring of evidence from my laptop (those I can no longer hold HP responsible for it legally), go forth, and settle? or fight it in court.

I settled out, and I just have to send them their crap machine - I hope they don't use it as a replacement for some poor sap, but eh, business is business to these people :\

It is about damn time someone else with the F5xx or the F7xx or G6xxx series laptops came online :D!

This laptop was only sold in the UK I think, while the F5xx and F7xx were worldwide.

Good luck! Need anything else? Just respond to the post.

Hello Sushiserv,

Thank you for a very informative post that hopefully will help a lot of people.

I really cannot understand why HP are not being investigated for their actions and inactions in this matter.

In my opinion they have lied to customers, they have issued BIOS updates without giving their customers the real reason why it was so "critical" (their words) that they updated their systems with the new BIOS.

You and I both know this was to turn the fans on 24/7 and again we all know of the effects that this had on the laptop; such as depleted battery life, extra noise and worse, an inherently defective laptop with a band aid fix in the hope that it would pass beyond the twelve months warranty.

Then they tell everyone "Sorry, your laptop is not on the list of laptops that we ourselves created so as a result we are not going to do anything for you except charge you for a repair or sell you another laptop"

Surely something should be done about the fact they they are selling mainboards to customers that are potentially as inherently defective as the boards they are replacing.

HP have been paid millions of dollars by Nvidia as compensation for this problem so they should put their hands in their pockets and start to spend some of that compensation.

If you ask me almost all HP's laptops have problems; the DV???? range, The TX???? range, the HP Mini-Note's - can HP not make a laptop that doesn't have problems or is that too much of a tall order for them?

I saw a quote on the net the other day where HP were quoted as "acting like Del Boy" and I agree wholeheartedly, although Del Boy, unlike HP, is liked by most people.

The more we can push this site under the noses of those poor unfortunate customers who purchased one of HP's defective laptops the more we can hurt HP's revenues.

Well, that's my rant over.

Thanks again Sushiserve.

Best wishes

Paul

Thank you sushirev for this wonderful post!

Another example of why Hewlett-Packard are misconducting, unlawful scandals!

On my thread I've referred to your post from hplies.com which outlines your court document which I found detailed and useful for others to view here on nvidiadefect.com :)

I'd like to investigate this, but with the DV range. Specifically the 9xxx series or models which use the 7600 GPU

Many thanks!
Gary

Hi,
Great post, thanks for sharing it.
I have the symptoms of the the blank, black screen, however I have a F761, so I don't think I qualify for the nvidia settlement, since it includes only the F500 (correct me if I'm wrong). Based on this post, it appears that I may have one of the defective chips, which is causing my problem? Any chance HP will expand the settlement to cover the F700? As of now I have a useless laptop. I can keep it in case it is included or try to get it working enough to use for a Staples $75 trade in credit. BTW, I did buy it at Staples in the US, if that helps and I should be able to find my receipt. I have taken it apart and was going to get it to work long enough to get a $75 trade-in, recycle credit at Staples on a new one.
Should I use the info in the OP and send the information to HP in hopes of some sort of settlement? OP-what was your settlement? I would be ok with a netbook or a credit at Staples for a replacement-at least the $75 recycle trade-in credit, anyway.

thanks

Hello F761 and welcome to our fourm.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

To be honest, I wouldn't worry too much about whether or not your laptop is on the settlement list as you would be much better off pursuing the retailer as an individual rather than as a class member as the payout would be less as a class member.

Here in the UK I consider Staples to be one of best high street retailers and so if their customer service is replicated in your country then I would say that they will be a breath of fresh air to deal with.

Why not contact Staples and tell them that you believe that your laptop is inherently defective and what can they do?

If they pass you on to HP, which they may as the laws in your country are different to here, then I would pursue HP.

The key to success is persistence. If you are persistent and stand your ground and do not allow yourself to be fobbed off then you will reach a positive resolution.

I hope the above helps.

Good luck and please keep us updated on your progress.

Best wishes

Paul
