Hello Lexx,

That is just appalling isn't it! Sony manufacture a laptop that was doomed to fail prematurely and then can just get away with it - this is not just appalling it is scandalous!

I am sorry that you have hit this dead end, I suppose the only saving grace is the fact that the laptop is still functioning.

The good thing with your laptop is that it is relatively easy to gain access to the GPU so if your laptop does fail then you could get it working again without too much hassle.

If and when your laptop does fail please pop back here and I will advise you on how to do that using only a screwdriver and a hair dryer.

Once again Lexx, sorry you have hit this dead end.

Fingers crossed your laptop lasts for many, many months to come. :x

Best wishes

Paul

Hello Lexx,

Sorry to hear that your laptop has finally failed.

It you are going to contact Sony there is no specific person that you need to contact. Simply send a letter to their Customer Services department.

If you feel confident with a screwdriver then there is a way you can get the laptop working again.

To do this firstly remove the battery and AC power from the laptop.

Next, remove all the screws from the underside of the laptop. This includes the screws holding the hard drive and also remove the hard drive.

Once all the screws have been removed the whole bottom cover will lift off.

Once you have removed this locate and remove all the screws holding the heat sink and fan assembly in place.

Once you have done that you will see the Nvidia GPU.

Using a hair dryer in its hottest setting heat ONLY the Nvidia GPU for between sixty and ninety seconds.

Once you have done that allow the GPU to fully cool.

Next, remove any old thermal paste from the GPU and CPU and re-apply some fresh thermal paste.

Then re-assemble the laptop and you will find that it will work again albeit for an indeterminable amount of time.

If the laptop does fail again simply repeat the above process.

I hope the above helps.

If you have any questions then please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul
