Hi

:nh

Yet another blank screen, five caps lock flashes episode.

I have to say that, as with one of the previous posters (ListerM), I found that my initial e-note contact with Ebuyer seemed to go quite well and they were apologetic and seemed willing to play ball (for now!).

They are arranging collection for testing and an engineers reports.

My only concern is that at the time, I actually bought two HP6735s's. The other one seems to be working ok, although until recently it was running very hot and the fan sounded like a lawnmower. I tried to clean it out as best I could using an air duster in every vent I could find and that seems to have done the trick. My concern, though, is that I am sitting on a Nvidia time-bomb and its only a matter of time before laptop number two goes up in smoke also.

Do I have any recourse here even though there has not yet been any problem?

Thanks for this forum, by the way. You have saved my sanity!!

Hello Damomac and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

Your laptop does not contain an Nvidia GPU but rather an ATI GPU, though the way in which it fails is very similar.

The problem with your laptop relates to the BGA (Ball Grid Array) which is what bonds the GPU down to the mainboard.

This is still an inherent defect though you should not mention the Nvidia word as that will confuse matters.

Instead this is the ATI BGA defect and Ebuyer have refunded numerous owners of these defective laptops.

Good luck with this stage of the process and I hope that Ebuyer come back with a favourable response.

If you have any questions then please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul

Hi Paul

Just a quick update...

Ebuyer arranged for my laptop to be collected and have confirmed that there was a fault and intend to issue a refund of £193.03.

I just wanted to check if you thought that this was a reasonable offer. Its seemed decent to my untrained eyes!!

Many thanks

Hello Damomac,

I have checked the refund that you have been offered and it is directly in line with what your are entitled to so I would accept their offer.

At least it is better than a lump of useless plastic!

Best wishes
