Hey Guys,

My dell xps 1530 failed the other day. I had no idea this was such a big problem. Laptop is 3 - 4 years old. I'm just after getting off the phone to dell. They quickly admitted the mistake, and said they are offering free motherboards for this problem and that I'm eligible. But that i need to pay for the guy to come out to my house and fix it for me. This will cost 171 euros, surely this isnt right? What can i do? quick answers would be greatly appreciated, any help would be amazing.....

Thanks
Paul

Hello Paul and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

You should completely disregard what Dell have stated as under no circumstances can they charge you to repair the laptop.

Also, you are advised to request a written guarantee that the board that will be used will be 100% free of the Nvidia defect as documented in the Step By Step Guide.

If Dell refuse to give such a guarantee then you should reject their offer of a repair on the grounds that they have failed to provide evidence that the repair will be of a satisfactory quality.

In my opinion, if they are confident that the parts which they are using will be free from the defect then they would be willing to give such a guarantee.

So, to answer you question, no - 171 euro's is not right and under no circumstances should you pay them a penny.

That is excellent news because they cannot now redact that statement and deny that your laptop is affected which ultimately means that your claim will be that much easier.

There is a step by step guide on this forum that will help you reach a positive resolution and that is here:- post13.html#p13

If you follow my advice in that guide then you will be successful.

I hope the above helps.

If you have any questions or if you need any advice then please let me know.

Good luck and best wishes
