My HP laptop failed recently. nvidia chip was running like a blast furnace, then refused to boot. It was terminal - the usual thing. I resigned myself to shelling out for a new laptop, but I found this site.

Thanks to this forum (high 5 to you all) I realised all was not lost.

And thanks to Staples for being an ace retailer (more high 5s) they exchanged my burnt-out three year old laptop for a new one! No messing about, they required an independent report for my HP and refunded this cost too.

Staples is a shining beacon in how customer service should be. Needless to say I shall be buying and recommending all my supplies from Staples.

Hello Pablo,

Well done on your success. :! :! :! :!

I love Staples! :D

From the minute we had dealings with them over two years ago they always excelled in the way they dealt with their customers and handed this problem.

I have had numerous telephone conversations with different members of staff at Staples and those conversations have always been pleasant, cordial and, in some cases, jovial.

What a breath of fresh air compared to the dealings I have had with some of the retailers who seem to excel at giving their customers and me a hard time.

It is a shame that Staples do not have a wider range of TV's and HI-Fi's etc as they could corner the market with their attitude to customer services.

Thanks Paul!

I spoke with the branch manager to find out what happens when an out-of-warranty machine gets returned. It turns out that it's written off against the branch's profits!

This is outrageous - HP and nvidia should be forced to pick up the tab for duff kit. No wonder retailers (with notable exceptions!) fight tooth and nail to stop this happening as it's a dead loss for them.

Hello Pablo,

That is the sad reality of this whole debacle, at some point, somewhere along the line, there is a loser and it generally is not the manufacturer.

Believe me, if I were a retailer and had been sold a few pallets of inherently defective laptops by any of the manufacturers, then I would have had them in court quicker than they could say Nvidia defect.

I simply would not stand for it and it is a shame that Staples are.

One retailer, namely Comet, recently stated to a forum member that they had "the reputation of the manufacturer to protect" when asked why they tried to defend claims that they could not possibly win.

If I were in the position of some of the high street stores and one of the manufacturers tried to fob me off then I would ensure that their products were not stocked and I would also ensure my customers knew why.

Once the manufacturer realised their products had been withdrawn from sale they would soon come to their senses.

Best wishes

Paul
