Date Purchased: 06 Jul 2009
Date Failed: 10 Apr 2011
Staples have offered me a replacement to the same value as original purchase, minus £70 for "depreciation" which happens to what I paid for my enginners report! Do I have to accept this and do I have to accept a replacement or can I demand a refund? :nh

Hello Muddybiker and welcome to our forum.

Their offer is quite fair, though that depends on whether or not you have already purchased a replacement laptop, in which case you could request a cash equivalent.

You do have to accept that Staples will reduce any refund based on usage as you have had unhindered use of the laptop since July 2009.

To be honest though if you were to receive a cash refund it wouldn't go very far towards purchasing a replacement.

Thanks Paul. I haven't replaced it yet, so I think based on your reply, I will accept their offer and add some more cash myself to buy one there.
p.s. this site is great and I probably wouldn't have got anything without all the advice and guidance I found on it. Keep up the good work. Power to the consumer and all that!!! 8-)
