Just found this wonderful site, which is easing my frustration.

My laptop stopped working on last Saturday, one long beep and two short beeps and nothing on the screen.

I investigated the problem and came across many other people with the nvidia problem. I also discovered the nvidia class action website. I am disgusted by the approach that HP has taken to this problem. Initially I posted on a HP forum, and was amazed when somone replied defending HP.

Then I fired off an email to the HP CEO. This resulted in a call from the HP complaints department. They were insistent there was nothing they could do, as my laptop p/n wasn't on any recall list. I did a 1471, and the number is 027214080600 in case anyone needs it.

Over the last 4 years I've bought 5 computers from HP, I won't be buying any more.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

Take no notice when HP fob you off, the fact that your laptop is not on their list is totally irrelevant and does not mean that your laptop is not inherently defective.

Your laptop contains the 7200 GPU and this is failing in large numbers.

The three beeps that you can hear are the universally recognised POST (Power On Self Test) error code that signifies a failed video.

So I would say that it is highly likely that your laptop has failed due to the Nvidia defect.
