Just thought I would let everyone know that I have had an engineers report done on my laptop. Sorry for not using lapcure Paul, but I really needed my laptop and the chap down the street from me could do it quicker, although thats mainly due to the travelling distance from Glasgow to your headquarters in Leeds.
Anyway, I had a 3 year extended warranty with HP that had expired back in July, and it originally crapped out on me in Feb 2009. At this time I was told by HP that a brand new motherboard was put in. However, after seeing this board on Friday at the repair shop, it turns out they've put in a second hand re-flowed board with a piece of metal over the GPU. Because this laptop is failing again, it shows that their repairs are merely a patch up and this can never be fixed. This was contrary to what HP told me about it being an isolated incident and that the problem would never arrise again. Does anyone happen to have an email address for HP's UK head office? I'm really wanting my money back for the extended warranty since they never actually fixed the issue.

Oh, and because I bought it from PC World, I had sent an email to the CEO a few weeks back telling them that I would be taken legal action should they fail to comply in the allotted time. They didn't come back to me for nearly 2 weeks at which point they offered £450 for my £1,200 laptop. I respectively refused stating I hadn't had the proper use out of it and informed them that I would continue with the legal action.
They phoned back a few days later and offered me £700 along with whatever it would cost for an engineers report. I would have liked more, but since I've had it for 3 and a half years you can't really knock it. I'll be going to get the money on Friday.

To their credit, the chap I was dealing with in the Customer Services Exec team was always highly polite to me and appreciated that I really need a unit for my MSc.
Its just a shame that they never decided to recall all the bleeding units.
