The Nvidia Defect Forum

Hi, i've never had a problem with a laptop before, so am unsure how to go about this. I have a Packard Bell SB88-P007 that failed on 27/03/11.

When the laptop is turned on, The screen has small pink lines at the bottom of it and after the windows logo it just goes black. After this there is nothing at all

I went back to PC world where I had bought the laptop from and explained the problem to them. They said it is a graphic card fault, and would cost me at least £210 for repair maybe more.

After doing my research I explained to them that this is a common problem with this laptop and with NVIDIA G8600m GS. I can see that this same problem has happened with lots of people. In fact another person has same laptop!!!!!

I find this unacceptable as I paid so much money for this laptop, and after 3 years it has packed up due to no fault of mine. It cost me £650.

What can I do about this?

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

The problems you describe are manifestations of the defect and so coupled with the fact that your laptop contains an 8600 GPU, which is one of the more prolific of the defective GPU's, then I would say that it is highly likely that your laptop is indeed inherently defective.

I have examined a large number of your model of laptop and they were all found to be defective.

Take no notice of PC World when they state that you will have to pay £210 for a repair.

If your laptop is indeed inherently defective then under no circumstances can they charge you a single penny.

You should go back to the store and should tell them that you believe your laptop has failed due to the inherent defect in the Nvidia GPU.

They may tell you that your laptop is out of warranty and that there is nothing that they can do. You should tell them that the warranty status is irrelevant as you have six years from the date of purchase in which to bring an action against a retailer when the goods in question are inherently defective.

They may then tell you to contact Packard Bell. You should tell them that you purchased from PC World and not from Packard Bell so it is entirely PC World's responsibility to resolve the situation.

Try the above and see what they say and then pop back here and let me know and I will advise further.

Another success story .. I took my Laptop into Pc World.

After demanding to see the manager on duty, it must have been my lucky day because this guy was great.

I described the problem to him and without even looking at the Laptop, he knew what was wrong.

I've since settled with Pc World for a total of £300 ... and i've received the money.

I'd like to thank you for advice, keep up the good work.
