It is definitely legitimate. I have personally talked to two of the attorney firms that were involved and the help number that is listed online is also good. They don't give you the option during the recording but if you press zero you will talk to a real person. The settlement regarding HP tablet PCs is a total insult. They are not following the rules that were laid out in the settlement.

Model: custom built by Cyberpower...
Graphics Card: 8400M GS
Purchased From: Website Sale
Amount Paid: 1751
Date Purchased: 06 Aug 2008
Date Failed: 01 Apr 2010
I also think the settlement is unfair in that it doesn't take into account custom built computers like mine. I know I have one of the affected cards (8600M GS) and the symptoms match but cyberpower isn't listed with the eligible computers. I will give them a call and explain my case.

I agree - the HP settlement is absolutely ridiculous. I could have sold my HP's parts on ebay in 2008 for more than this POC ASUS is worth.

The judge in this case - Hon. James Ware - was almost impeached during the Clinton administration for fabricating a story about being the brother of someone killed by white supremacists while a child (story was proven to be a complete fabrication)- and lost his bid to be on the US Court of Appeals.

Not that I care about his politics but it doesn't strike me as someone that cares much about truth and fairness so I don't have much hope that this settlement will change. Looks like I have a choice between selling my HP's parts for about $100 or getting a "toy" ASUS that will do absolutely nothing for me (no CD/DVD drive - can't even install my software on it!!).

The "settlement", consists of a replacement, that has not one of the features, for which influenced my purchase of my laptop. NOT one! How is that fair? I'd be very happy if they would just replace the motherboard using a DIFFERENT GPU, and give me back a working laptop! I am not looking for something better than what I purchased, I just want what I purchased to work, and not be replaced with something that I, purposely, did not buy, due to the lack of features!

Hello Nick and welcome to our forum.

The good news is that Sony have admitted to the defect in your model of laptop so there is a glimmer of hope for you.

That can be found here:- http://tinyurl.com/2wq7vl8

Did you purchase in the UK and what method of payment did you use (Cash/Debit Card/Credit Card)?

Who did you purchase from?

Please let me know and I will advise further.

Best wishes

Paul
