Hello Toby and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

The problems you describe are all manifestations of the defect, especially the Nvlddmkm.sys errors you are experiencing.

Your laptop contains one of the more prolific of the defective GPU's so I would say it is highly likely that your laptop is inherently defective.

I have a few questions to see if I can help.

1) Who did you purchase the laptop from?
2) How did you pay (Debit/Credit card)?
3) Did you purchase in the UK?
4) Can you prove purchase?

Please let me know and I will advise further.

Best wishes

Paul

Hi this is the letter i received from sony this morning, i do not understand what i am looking for when it tells me to press f2 button on start up
Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for contacting us.

I apologize for the inconvenience that this issue might have caused.

Please be informed that we have to go through the trouble-shooting steps below to check if it's the NVIDIA graphics issue and it requires a repair or a software issue that might need full recovery.
Make sure that the unit is OFF then turn it ON normally and then keep tapping on F2 repeatedly as the VAIO restarts to access the BIOS screen.
If the issue appears in the BIOS screen, a repair order should be arranged.
If the issue doesn’t appear in the BIOS screen, you can try the below troubleshooting steps.
1- Reinstall the graphics driver. Reinstalling a separate driver can be done through the VAIO
Recovery Center
2- options:
a. Go to VAIO Recovery center.
b. Click on Reinstall Programs or Drivers.
c. Click start.
d. You can back up your data before going to step five other wise click skip.
e. Click next and choose driver from the driver tab.
3- Check for graphics driver updates.
4- If the problem has started recently, restore the system to a date before the issue started:

5-If the issue still persists, a full recovery will be required. The link below will guide through this process:

Hello Toby,

What they are trying to do is to determine whether or not there is corruption in the BIOS screen.

If you press F2 when you start the laptop do you see any corruption in the BIOS screen. Are there any artefact's visible in the screen. Are there any random colours or lines?

Does the screen go black in the BIOS?

If not then you may want to try the system restore that they recommend.

If the problem persists after that then it is definitely your GPU at fault.

Please let me know the results of the above and I will advise further.

Best wishes
