Hello Drofkcah,

....they are offering me a refurbished chassis that they will transfer the components to, they say this chassis is free from the defect.

Before you do anything you need to know exactly what them mean by a "refurbished chassis".

I have no idea what they mean by this. They are obviously referring to the lower section of the laptop excluding the LCD panel etc.

What mainboard will this "refurbished chassis" contain?

Will the specifications be the same as your current laptop?

You need to ascertain this before you can decide whether or not to accept their offer of a repair.

What do you think?

Best wishes

Ok just got a reply from PC Specialist, well it looks like they are willing to give me a written guarantee as the person dealing with this says

"I am also 100% happy to provide you a letter with the details you want, as I am 100% sure this laptop is not affected by the "defect" as it contains a 9600 GT"

all of my original components will be swapped into the new chassis, there is some slight cosmetic damage where the track pad is slightly shiny.

They will give me a 3 month warranty on the repair as well.

I'm going to see if it is possible to get a part number for the GPU as with my defective laptop it is a removable GPU

Hello Drofkcah,

If they are prepared to give you a written guarantee then great. I would accept the repair then keep the guarantee in a safe place - just in case.

Ask them for the written guarantee though before you allow them to proceed with the repair.

Good luck and best wishes

Hello Drofkcah,

Oh dear, that doesn't sound good does it?

When you say the wireless appears to be failing could you please give me a little more information.

Is the wireless device visible in the Device Manager?

Is the wireless LED illuminated on the laptop?

Does the wireless work at any time or does the signal drop?

Please let me know and I will advise further.

Best wishes

The wireless card isn't visible in the device manager when it fails, and I cant remember if the wireless led is lit, I'll look next time it fails. It isn't a router problem as i can use a different laptop on the router, and a restart doesn't always restore the wireless.

Oh dear, that is not good as the loss of the wireless card from the Device Manager is one of the first manifestations of the defect and is a sign that your laptop could once again be failing.

Please let me know the next time it fails whether or not the card is visible in the Device Manager and I will advise further.

Let's hope that the defect hasn't reared its ugly head again.

Best wishes

The wireless has failed again, and the wireless card isn't visable in the device manager, nor is it there as an unknown device, this and the last time the wireless died when I was playing a game and thus putting the laptop under strain.

I have also had the graphics driver crash a couple of times.

Been a little while but the wireless just went again, the machine wasn't under load, the wireless card is not seen in the device manager and it wasn't resolved on a restart, also in the last couple of days windows reports that there are no wireless signals detected but I could see the card in the device manager.
