Hello Markone and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

Your particular model contains an Nvidia 7600 GPU and is one that is also failing in large numbers.

The key to success is persistence. Stand your ground, stick to your guns, be persistent and you will succeed.

If you need any help or advice then please let me know.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul

Thanks Paul,
Can you guide me in the direction of an initial template letter to send to them?
What happens if you can't find the original receipt? Will they have records of the serial number etc?
Should I take it to the store to start with or send a letter? :c

Cheers

Mark

Hello Mark,

Here is a link to the template letter:- letter-to-send-to-retailers-head-office-prior-to-action-t134.html

You could do with finding some proof of purchase. A bank or credit card statement will do.

Have you actually spoke to the retailer yet? You would be best contacting them first prior to sending them a letter as they may offer a resolution.

Hope this helps.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul

Well after sending a letter to PC world and them responding, I took it to the local PC world where they confirmed the fault, but because I had bought it with a company credit card, it was not covered by the sales of goods act. They advised me to go direct to HP and gave me a direct line number to speak to someone and not wait in a queue for an hour.
So, let's see what happens from here?? :x

Hello Markone,

Whilst you may have purchased using a company credit card what does it state on the receipt?

It could be that the invoice is in your name, your company paid for it and you repaid the company.

If this is the case then technically it is not a business sale as the laptop is not being used in the course of business.

Fingers crossed it has your personal details on the receipt. :x

Best wishes

Well.............
Now heard back from HP who say it doesn't matter if it was bought on a company credit card, it is still covered by the Sales Of Goods Act and to go back to PC world as they do not cover out of warranty goods without a large repair bill. Does anyone know what bit of the SOGA I could quote to PC world that would show them that this is the case?
Get the feeling I am being fobbed of by both parties here ................... :b

Hello Markone,

PC World should not have fobbed you off to HP as it is always the retailers responsibility to resolve problems in situations such as this.

It is for PC World to prove that this is a business sale, it is not for you to prove that it is not.

The important thing is what is detailed on the sales invoice.

Is it your personal name and address or does it mention a business?

Please let me know and I will advise further.

Best wishes

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your continued support.

I cannot find the original invoice, but PC World/Curries found me in their data base and said that it was a company credit card that the computer was purchased with. I am not sure whether it had may name or the business name on it.
That should not matter though according to HP as they say that the SOGA should apply anyway. Just need to find the paragraph in there that confirms this I suppose.

Cheers

Mark
