Hello Woost and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing problems with the laptop.

Heve you tried uninstalling the Ethernet card and then re-installing it again?

Are there any LED's on the ethernet connector and if so do they illuminate when you connect the cable?

Does the relevant port on your reouter illuminate when the cable is plugged intio the laptop?

Please let me know and I will advise further.

Best wishes

Paul

hi paul,
thank for replying yes i tried reinstalling the card it always says there is nothing wronge with this device, um the green light lights up(no yellow light anymore), the routers light comes on also when connected. i ping 127.0.0.1 and theycome back which means the card is ok??? it flat out refuses to connect to the net (unidentified network, local only).
i cannot use wireless as i have big headaches if it is on near me so wireless is a no no :) i am stuck with a 6kg paperweight
thank you for any suggestions....woost

strangley when kubuntu is running and i connect the ethernet and the yellow light comes on as if its doing something but not internet.

Hello Wonst,

Well, 127.0.0.1 is known as a "local host" and is usually the IP address allocated to the address of a loopback network interface.

Usually this this numbering convention would not be used as it will only work with the local computer.

Ordinarily if this only occurred within Windows then I would say that the problem was related to the IPV4 (TCP/IP) setup.

However, you have stated that when using Kubuntu that the problem remains.

Due to this I would say that the problem lies with your router.

If you know your username and password for accessing the internet then I would reset your router in order to correct the problem.

There is usually a little reset button on the rear of the router. You will need a little pin to go through the hole in order to push the button.

You should push and hold this button in for 10 seconds or so and then release it.

Once you have done that you should find that internet access is restored.

I hope the above helps.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul

Hello Woost,

Hmm, if that is the case then there could be a problem with the laptop's port.

Is the Netbook connecting via Ethernet?

Is the ethernet card disabled in the BIOS?

Try going into the BIOS to see if there are any settings relating to the ethernet card and let me know how you get on.

Best wishes

Hello Woost,

I am sorry to say that the problem you are experiencing is not related to the Nvidia defect.

The defect generally only affects the wireless card and not the ethernet card and so I would say that your problem is completely unrelated.

It could be caused by a damaged pin in the connector or faulty component but is most definitely not cased by the Nvidia GPU.

If you would like me to take a look at your laptop then I will be more than happy to do so.

If you have any questions then please let me know.

Best wishes

hi again, hmm the port looks fine looks the same as 3 yrs ago, i think its best for you to look at it if you will, but i cannot let it out of my sight,

it has done things like this in the past now i remember , things dissappearing after reboot, i just put it down to windows been crap, and now it seems its given up completly.
i do think this laptop falls into the defect cat, because it is useless cant use something that wont connect to the internet? what do you think ?
thanks
woost
